It evolved from MagForce, to Mag V and Mag Z (predate the term "BFS" by over a decade), now SV and retrofitted to what is called BFS.

Correct, it was iterative.

The central idea behind a BFS reel is reducing inertia, specifically the amount of force required to start the spool turning. Inertia is the resistance to change and that applies to speeding up and slowing down a spool.

In designing the SV spool to better function in finesse applications, not only in terms of how the brake/rotor function but also in reducing the rotating mass of the spool itself, it has consequently made it more forgiving at the end of the cast because it’s inertia is reduced there as well.

The first Pixys came out in 2003, almost a decade before the first SV spooled reels, so the idea of using a casting reel for lighter stuff has been around for a while even if the term "BFS" is newer.

The only tech that maybe has trickled up from finesse casting is a trend towards lighter/shallower spools, but that might just be a Daiwa thing.

Correct, in fact, it takes quite a bit of fuss to bring a Pixy up to bass "snuff."  There are many Pixzillas out there, with upgrades to drags, spool, line guide, etc. to make it suitable for bass fishing.

I am a Pixy fan, I have 3-4 of them.  I had a "normal" Pixy on a 783c GLX for a few months loaded with 14lb Sniper and was really surprised at how well it did.  With the brakes at like 50-75% is would struggle a little bit at the upper end of the range, but it was the bee's knees for casting/pitching weightless Trickworms with very good control.  The weaker drag didn't bother me as I palm a reel with my thumb on the spool, so adding a little drag is easy.  Sadly I think the TD-Z line guide supply has dried up, so I don't know if you can build a proper Pixzilla anymore w/o a donor reel.

I sold both my red and yellow mod'ed Pixies for a pretty sweet profit.  They were very nice reels.

There was a period a year or so ago when the market for them just tanked for some reason.  I got an amazing Red 'zilla for just under $200 and an almost NIB silver one for $100!  I found more at that price but I was able to control myself.

Some do, some don't. Some like to fish as if they're in a tournament and think in terms of a 5 fish limit where that fantasy pressure is their challenge. For some it's just about quantity. Fishing isn't solely about catching fish for everyone though. We all have different priorities, and  some people aren't easily amused. I find it curious how certain people dispense information based on their struggle to meet a challenge, then assume it will apply to someone else, or even everyone else. It's essentially discouragement, even though they feel like they're just trying to help. The ego is a funny thing.

One sincere member here often responds to BFS threads by adding his conclusion that people only do it to impress others, or to look cool. I don't know how one chooses to fish impresses anyone, or that it's any cooler than bowling. Bowling's fun, but it isn't cool.

Perfectly said. Doing anything artfully takes time and perseverance. Doing something inherently difficult artfully is a layer too far for some people. For others its bliss.

That's fine. A man's gotta know his limitations, but why assume the limitations of others will be yours?

I assume that I’m the sincere member.

You know what happens when you assume, so let's leave it there.

I assume he’s talking about posts from 2016. Time to move on.

I have zero clue whether you're sincere or not. 50/50 chance, I reckon. You're not him though. Sorry.
