Also wondering what lures do guys throw when it starts to warm up in the spring?

I don't target them, but I catch plenty.   Frogs, chatterbaits and plastics.  All in less than 3 FOW.  Often at edges of pads and reeds.

Thank you. Yeah I targeted them for the first time last year. I just started fishing last year also. Do you catch them in the spring even with a frog?

Are you in Florida or on the east coast? We caught them on soft plastic frogs and buzzbaits in shallow in weeds as soon as there were weeds shallow on the Potomac. Before that in the winter  they are thick in any warm water spot and spinnerbaits were solid.

I like in southern part of Japan actually! It is in the 40-50s during the day freezing at night now! I’m not sure if you can catch them here in the winter. Does the bite turn off in the winter for you?

Yeah what I have heard from people around here is it does turn off. There are some bass here but they are in the river systems here. I have yet to catch a bass yet. Thanks for all your help!

Yes.  I have no idea where they are now.  Hibernating?  Lol

I am around lots from late spring to early fall, but don't see or catch them ever in the winter..

Maybe @Snakehead Whisperer or @davehave some insight.

While on some warmer days they will come out to eat some, mostly this...

I also have found no real info about snakeheads in winter, not even where in a given body of water they spend their days.

I have a pair of combos rigged up to do a little catfishing this winter, I think I might bring a third rod a long and keep warm by slowly fishing a topwater of some sort just to see if I can get a SH to bite.

thanks for the reply! Let me know if you get one to bite!

There have been snakeheads here in Japan all over for along time. I have heard from people here they hibernate in the mud in bigger rivers.

Snakehead and Bass are opposite for America. People here in Japan think bass are bad for the ecosystem where I heard and read it is the opposite in America. If you kill a bass here they will give you money I heard haha. Have not caught a bass yet here though.

Anytime,  George. I was so frustrated one day last May.  Was fishing a bass tournament on Mattawoman and I couldn't keep the snakeheads off.  One took a PopMax; another destroyed a Jackhammer....seemed like I spent all day trying to land and release the dang things.

Your snakeheads in Japan are a different species than the ones we have here on the east coast of America.  The Northern Snakehead does slow way down in the winter months when the water temp drops below 10 degrees Celsius.  I catch most of mine on plastics fished in the heavy grass and on the edges.  Yamamoto DShads and Senko.

Actually we have two kinds of snakehead! Where I live in the south are Northern Snakehead like you guys? Thanks for the info! Going to try out throwing just plastics then!

Have you caught snakehead using creature plastics?
