Don't take the sellers word on the compression test.  Have the motor looked at. Check the transom for rot.  That looks like a 300 series Ranger though it could be even older.

On the starboard side of the transom there should either be a plate with a set of numbers or a set of numbers imprinted into the transom itself.  On that will be the year of manufacture.  The engine will also have a tag on it that gives its age.

If we go to look at it we will for sure get it looked at by a mechanic.  How important is it that we test drive it? what years are the 300 series?

Sorry for all the questions, this will just be the first boat purchase for us and I wanna make sure we dont have any regrets
