Dawia guys, I'm looking for a dawia reel that has a smaller frame than those I've been buying. I've purchased two dedicated setups for skipping but am struggling to find what fits well. Im typically a shimano guy and have figured out that I really love the aldebaran and curado mgl 70 frame size. Ive got the new zillion, love it, but it's similar in size to the met b that I find just a tad bit too big to be "the one" so I'm looking for a dawia reel preferably in the sub 6.5oz ish range that either has an sv spool or can take one. I do have a 2020 tatula, it sits low but is really wide. Does dawia have anything similar frame wise to the aldebaran or curado 70? Pixy?

The Daiwa original red TD Fuego orSol are compact size,Pixy 68 is another popular reel. Used on eBay.

This thread disappoints me.

I have a bunch of Met B’s but I also believe it is just a skosh too big to be ‘the one’. I was hoping the new zillion was going to be it.

I doubt he has the new new new Zillion.  I may be wrong but I see him as having the current US Zillion or Zillion 10 from the same platform.  To me 'Zillions" are TD Zillions and "new Zillions" are the Tatula CT based reels.  Now there is the "new new Zillion" which is its own Japan made bespoke platform.

No bro, it's the brand spanken new, new jdm zillion. And, it's basically the same size as the metanium b, at least in my hands

It's true, the reel looks and feels great. I'm sure I'll like it but it's just doesn't feel like "the one" because of size.

Alphas SV or Steez TW SV.  I'm a fan of the Alphas SV myself although the Steez is the superior reel.  Alphas SV can be had for pretty cheap from enthusiasts in better than new condition.  I bought my 2015 new for $185 and my used one in better than new condition with tune parts in 2018 for $190.  Love the reels but they need a drag upgrade and a longer handle.   Ebay prices are insane so ignore them.

My understanding was the steez sv tw was basically the same frame as the 2020 tatula sv. Too me, it's just a odd bit too wide.

Is the alphas sv CT capable of handing stuff like 1/2oz jigs with a full trailer? I thought I read that it excelled greatly at near bfs weights and got wild over 3/8oz. I could be a wrong.

Alphas SV 105

Is there a big difference between the alphas sv 105 and the alphas ct sv?

I feel like the steez ct sv frame is what I want but I can't bring myself to spend that. Maybe the alpha CT is similar in frame?

I'm not saying these pictures or measurements mean anything. I was just trying to measure in some way why they felt similar in size.

You will hard pressed to find a Daiwa reel as small as Shimano Core 50.

Lots of after market spools, handles, drags etc for the Pixy.

Bandersnatch,

Thank you for those pictures. For me, it’s those ‘height’ pictures from the side that tell the story.

They seem very similar in height on the side plate. Definitely still a good bit larger than the SLP frames from Lews it seems.

I believe the Steez SV CT would be the closest Daiwa offering to the Aldebaran. It's still a little larger but the smallest profile that Daiwa offers that I'm aware of. I just picked up a Steez SV, and it's a little bit larger, more for using 15-20lb line for jigs and T-Rigsthan 10lb line for crankbaits or finesse jigs, but it is a very comfortable size for me.

I'm not sure if they have anything in the Tatula or Zillion line that is similar.

The steez SVTW is smaller and lower in profile than the new zillion SVTW. The smallest offering would be the Steez CTSV or the alphas CTSV. The steez CTSV and alphas are similiar in lower profile feeling but the alphas feels wider and the steez is longer. Both are small reels.

My new zillion Sv is on the way. hope you like it.

Lots of stuff made for the Pixie, but I've never seen an SV spool,...I wish.

The Alphas SV/sv105 reels are pretty small, but to me feel a bit bigger in hand then an Aldebaran.  I use my Alphas for stuff in the 1/4-3/4oz range and love it for that.  I have one of mine on a loomis 783c and think it's the ideal reel for that rod's range.

Do not know. But think I'm in for one. If so - I'll review in the spring...
