My wife works at a local hospital. She received the first of 2 shots of the Moderna vaccine New Years Eve. No side effects thank goodness and she is doing fine. I am not worrried about me but I will sleep a lot easier when my parents get theirs. It will be awhile before my son and I get ours.

As far as resolutions go mine is to change myself instead of trying to change others.

I'm one of those with a weight loss goal, but I for real mean it this time. :wink7:

My job switched to primarily sitting behind a desk a few years ago, and I've probably put on 5-10 lbs every year since due to not adjusting my "intake" or increasing my activity level to compensate for the sedentary job. 2021 goal will be 40 lbs... sounds like a lot but it works out to what should be a very doable 3-4 pounds/month as long as I stay disciplined. Starts Monday so it's pizza and beer tomorrow...

I always say “never start a diet on a Sunday” @NorcalBassin.

3-4 lbs a month is very doable. If I can give you 1 piece of advice. Take it fwiw.

The lbs will probably start coming off quick. Don’t be alarmed it’s your system flushing out extra glycogen. Then you’ll probably get about 1/2 - 1 pound a week based on you 3-4 lb per month goal. You gonna get to a point where you may hit a plateau. 2 things are happening. 1 your body is getting used to the new you and 2 you have to adjust your caloric deficit again.

For example. If 2000 Cals is your current maintenance and you cut 300 - 500 Cals to the new you where you plateaued. That 1700 Cals is your new you maintenance. If you want to cut more weight you gonna have to cut more cals again to be in a caloric deficit.

You probably know this but a lot of people make the mistake and think they failed and end up yo-yoing back to where they came from.

Good luck to the new you.

Good for you @NorcalBassin

I took the same journey years ago. Used to be 280lbs I am now at 195lbs and have been for 5 years plus.

My advice is to move more. You said your new job is sedentary. Something as little as walking in place while you watch a half hour TV show will help you in the long run. Especially when you combine it with watching your calorie intake.

I got a fitness tracker and it changed my life. Maybe my love of video games in my younger days is partially responsible. I love closing those rings everyday. It’s like a living video game.

Here's the 'secret' my friend, right here

If at any point in the day, you are not hungry

you are heading in the wrong direction.

And this includes immediately after you eat.

Every time; especially in the beginning.

That's just the way it is - you'll get used to it.

Eventually you will come to recognize that

as the feeling of success  . . .

You've Got This !

In a profound way this is exactly what happens when you lose weight and also maintain it, especially in a social setting.

Well spoken @A-Jay

I actually think it's pretty funny despite living it for the past few years.

I used to think I could eat more and then

wait for it . . .

"Burn It Off" . . .

Yea right.

I'd have needed to jump rope up & over Mt Kilimanjaro 4 times a day to even but a dent in it.

And then there was that magic moment where I discovered 'portion control'.

Who Knew !

Eat what you burn every day and that's it.

No Cardo Needed - - - Ever.

My knees sure like it.

I was about to eat the last helping of shrimp pasta over on the stove and I didn’t, this thread came into mind and stopped me. I have a lifelong habit of eating until I have to lay down on the floor , it’s a wonderful feeling that I wish I didn’t enjoy quite so much.

I agree, can’t burn off a bad diet.

I have a different approach but it really comes down to the the same thing: Calories in vs Calories out

As you get older you find that the more muscle you can make and preserve the better your metabolism will serve you.

So far it works.

Father Time will win out but he’ll have a heck of a time with me...lol

Haha, I did the same thing until one day my daughter said

“um dad, you’re getting round”

In shape...... round is a shape.........

my grandma cooked for “boarders” (Miners) when she was young. She cooked enough for an army every meal and was extremely concerned if we didn’t eat 3 full plates. The ratio is a bit off since I don’t shovel coal all day........

I use the same thing with my wife that a room-mate in the Air Force used - 'It's my desert survival kit'.

Other one I like is 'my six-pack is turning into a pony-keg'

I'm not much above my desired weight - 6'1" 195lbs right now - but having an un-repaired hernia limits my current activity. Having a partially disabled wife for whom I'm the PCA is the reason I haven't gotten that repaired yet. We're working on something, but it might be a month or three before all the ducks are lined up.

Well, there's no way I'm going to stop drinking because I just started after I retired.

But I will continue to stick with this mindset......always stay humble and kind.

And a wifey tune.

Sometime this spring Mrs Mike and I plan on taking a road trip to get my first one!

I was gonna ask you guys where would be a good place to go that’s not 1,000 miles away.

I thought we would have to go farther than that.

Thanks Pal
