Whatever Posted January 4, 2021 Posted January 4, 2021 For local native species, I have never caught burbot (aka ling), or sturgeon. And there are a few lakes south of me that have introduced Golden Trout, at 8000 ft elevation. We have Walleye now as well, but I have never caught one. In Eastern Montana, they have native Paddlefish, and Gar, and I have frequently thought about targeting them. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 4, 2021 Global Moderator Posted January 4, 2021 I don't think there's any species in Kansas that I haven't caught. Probably the closest fish to me that I haven't caught that I'd like to would be a Tiger Muskie or Lake Trout. Quote
Super User Teal Posted January 4, 2021 Super User Posted January 4, 2021 There's probably alot that I havent caught. But as far as what we have locally, I think I've pretty most of them in the boat at one time or another in terms of freshwater. One that comes to mind that I know I havent caught Is a freshwater drum. I know there are some in Kerr Lake/Buggs Island Reservoir. I've seen videos of guys catching them when bass fishing on Kerr. Looks like fun. I have never seen nor caught a smallie on the local lakes near me. I have however caught them from lakes on the western side of the state and up in VA on the western side. Walleye are few and far between here but I have caught a few. Good eating. I've caught more long nose gar than I care to talk about.. dang poachers. Quote
TheBasslayer Posted May 10, 2021 Posted May 10, 2021 I haven't caught: Brook Trout or Steelhead Any type of catfish Walleye(I've caught a Sauger in a river, not a Walleye) Sturgeon/Paddlefish Muskie Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted May 10, 2021 Super User Posted May 10, 2021 Never fished for/caught a musky or sturgeon. Quote

Black Hawk Basser Posted May 12, 2021 Posted May 12, 2021 Flathead catfish and muskie. Don't think I've ever caught a redear sunfish, either. There are just not many flatheads in the area lakes, and the local river just won't gift me with one, even though I've thrown 1,000 different artificial baits there. I never live bait fish, though, so I imagine I'd get one that way. They started stocking muskie in my local lake about 8 years ago. I've had two muskie 'blowups' there on topwaters, and one good hookup and fight on a spinnerbait until the wire arm broke. Never got her into my hands, just got a good look near my feet at the bank. CM-fisher Posted May 14, 2021 Posted May 14, 2021 Fish that I want to catch but haven't yet: Open water northern pike (I've only caught them ice fishing) Brown Trout (going camping in June at the Root River to fish for them) Walleye Channel Catfish Tiger Muskie Quote
CrankFate Posted May 14, 2021 Posted May 14, 2021 Walleye, Muskie, Pike. Sheepshead, Grouper, Red Snapper. This is also my bucket list. Quote
Super User NYWayfarer Posted May 16, 2021 Super User Posted May 16, 2021 Striped Bass. It’s a sin to live in this state and not have caught one. Every time I made plans for a trip for Striped Bass something came up and derailed me. Quote

Super User Tennessee Boy Posted May 20, 2021 Super User Posted May 20, 2021 I grew up fishing the Duck River in Tennessee which has been called the most biologically diverse river in the country. It has 151 species of fish. I think I’ve caught 14 of them but I’m still working on it. ? Quote

Most of my fishing has been east of the Mississippi river system so the list is larger. My biggest would be a bowfin. Have one local lake that has them but have yet to make it happen. Quote
haggard Posted May 20, 2021 Posted May 20, 2021 Brook trout. When I finally catch one, I'm hoping it will be on a fly rod, because it will also be the first fish I ever caught on a fly rod. Quote
Junk Fisherman Posted May 20, 2021 Posted May 20, 2021 Musky (never got one in the boat) Sturgeon Quote

Smells like fish Posted May 20, 2021 Posted May 20, 2021 Duck River immediately made me think of the Duck River Sword cache. Is that something that all the locals such as yourself is familiar with? @Tennessee Boy Snail Darter? Let’s us know when that’s accomplished @TnRiver46 Stripers, get over top of them with a 2 ounce Mann’s manalure in yellow and you’ll be a school teacher in no time! @NYWayfarer 3 Quote

Is that something that all the locals such as yourself is familiar with? @Tennessee Boy No, I'd never heard about it until now. I did google it and it looks interesting. The artifacts are at the Johnsonville Historic Park. I've been wanting to go there for a while but never got around to it. Lot of history there. Now I have another reason to go. I'm glad you mentioned it. The family farm is on the Duck River a good distance up river from the site in question. Back before no-till farming became the norm, my grandfather used to find a lot of arrow heads every spring when he plowed the fields. I think the native Americans made them along the river. The ones we found look like the factory rejects. ? Quote
