The best time to catch a big bass is when you are able to go fishing. Everyone knows that the pre spawn and spawning period are very good but you will be surprised how good Summer can be.

Woo-hoo!

I'm fishing two days at ToHo and one day at Stick Marsh/ Farm 13

in three weeks! Hoping to latch on to another DD.

BTW, did you catch them on minnows, artificials or both? Would you

share lure suggestions?

Hey there,

I love Stick Marsh and have fished it since opening in 1991 to the public. Even spent my honeymoon fishing there. My wife caught a 10lb bass on her first cast the morning we arrived.

It used to be much better than it is now. The last few years have only been fair. There has apparently been an issue with water containing biohazards being pumped from Lake Blue Cypress to the SE corner of Farm 13. It comes in about 100 ft from the lock. Water management was trying to remove them from Blue Cypress and over the locks was the plan. This was about 2 years ago. I love Stick Marsh/ Farm 13 and hope it returns to the world class fishery it once was.

I’m not sure if you’ve heard of Lake Egan. It’s right next to Stick Marsh and the only boat ramp just opened about 6 mos. ago. It’s open to motorized boats now and is on fire. The lake is larger than Stick Marsh and Farm 13 combined.

It was built and designed to be a bass paradise. It’s like Stick Marsh 2.0! They’ve been catching huge numbers and lots of 5-10 lbs. Most of the fish have never seen a lure. I would fish there for sure over the Marsh, if you can. Check it out online. There are tons of videos most from Kayaks before motors were allowed.

Tight lines either way!

January and March for 4 of my top 5. The 1 oddball was a June bass caught in the heat of midday. Have no other bass over 7lbs in Kansas outside the cold water periods.

I added another fish over 7 to my January total this past January too ?

My PR was caught in May, my biggest are usually caught in May.  The two biggest of this year were caught in November which is probably my second best month every year.

I haven't kept records, but most of my best bass have come from April to October. Most of those have been in summer months, the dog days early or late. That's just a function of fishing much more in those months. The one in my avatar came in December. But the weather had stayed warm right up until the night before. It was 38 that morning.

SM = March is the month I have caught the bigger fish on hair jigs usually.

LM= March, April and for some reason August? I understand the pre-spawn fish but the 6lber's in 3 FOW around noon 95 degree heat?

Worst month is July for anything except 9" fish. Not even sure why I fish that month?

My PB was caught in April while stationed in OK. Most of my biggest fish were caught in the March-May timeframe with exception of the oddball one in September.

July and August for me.

My top three were all caught in July 26th, 18th and 4th. The next two were caught in early Aug. Of those five, only one wasn't caught during mid-day; The one on July 4th.
