How to spool 4lb braid on bait finesse reel(HELP)

the reason to fish 6-lb braid and associated lures is partly to match small natural bait, but also so the fish Don't Know -

- that you're hunting them.  

 

Here's my choice UL use - the biggest fish in this pile is 22" - we were releasing 16", and they're all schoolie males.  

Also happens to be our favorite winter fishing, and we'll probably go back in Feb.

oh yeah, I bought one spool, but for now I don't dare to think about it after I saw the diameter by my own eyes.

I can’t wait my new line is coming 2lb Nanobraid. I’m in love with 4-8lb Nanofil already and using it on more and more reels even baitcaster. Will see what this 2lb would bring to the table but I have to find a reel for it first.

aldebaran BFS or Conquest BFS, 2lb Braid is crazy, I have 4.5lb and I cant even see it and make knots and ETC.... the rod is also very important that be able to handle that cast. PM me if you want to buy some of my set ups, I have couple of the set ups that I am willing to sell.

Thanks but I’m done with those BFS or BSF stuffs. That 2lb gonna go on my spinning rig for sure. I don’t care much for invisibility but I want a line that is super light in weight and can cut thru water well enough where I can feel the bite when jigging or slow retrieve 1/32oz jig head.

so use Sahara 500 or any of 500 reels out there, but don't forget you want UL rod for sure. I am getting new rod tomorrow from edge it is 1 power 7'6" rod for jigging trout magnet. so 7'6" help casting distance and UL rod for casting itself.

There is room, but the whole idea of BFS is spool balance, In my idea the tape will unbalance the spool on casting and it will effect my casts and results backlash or in good scenario I’ll not get maximum distance due to having more break on spool. Once I tried BFS it brings me whole new level of casting technique, anyways I did the tape and going to try it soon in this couple days, I did it for all five BFS set ups I have, let’s wait and see the result. Second reason I was trying to avoid tape was the  spool weight, which you adding some amount of weight to spool and it is definitely impacting your casting performance .

Four pound braid SCREAMS "wind knots" to me.  I'd be using heavier braid with a leader......and I usually don't like leaders.

Two 1/4" squares of Super 33+ placed over the line at 180 degrees on the spool won't imbalance anything, are immeasurably light, and your line won't slip.

I just weighed a piece of electricians tape, a piece the size that I use to secure a spool knot weighs 0.05g.  That's such a small fraction of the weight of even a specialty UL spool that I cannot see it making any difference.

Why not? If one can handle line dig in. There are many ways to fish and also prevent line dig in. Lighter drag, easy cast, enough line to not creat soft spot for line to dig in. Not all fishing is about horsing the fish in with tight drag or whip the lure out there. I’m just saying, you fish the way you fish and so are they. If OP is deem to still using 4 or 6lb braid, it his choice. He will learn sooner which line is suitable for the way he fish.

4lb braid to 2lb fluor so can cast 1/16oz hopefully to have true BFS fishing fun.

You won't need to go that thin throwing a true 1/16 bait.  The lightest bait I use is a 1/32 jig with a 2" Powerbait minnow, coming in at 1.7g, slightly under 1/16.  This is with my Alphas CT SV outfitted with a SLP Works shallow spool, 8lb J-braid and a 6lb Seaguar leader.  Your Calcutta is a more finesse capable reel than my Alphas.  To keep rotating mass low, use less line.  I use no more than 40 to 50yd worth.  You can use the 4lb no problem, just saying it isn't necessary to cast as light as you want.  Now if you were wanting to cast Trout Magnets, then the 4lb may be beneficial to some degree.

I Tried mt favorit BFS combo with 10lb J-Brais and 4lb Invizx.

I could get 20 yard with no problem for 1/16 jig with no single back lash. I am going to release the breaks more to get more distance, Because one of my friends getting 40 yards which is my goal.

I just use a 1/4"x1/4" piece of scotch tape to hold my 4# mono Trilene XL in place(Kastking Zephyr reel), works well until you run all the line out on that BFS shallow spool... I do my best to not do that.......?
