Super User Spankey Posted December 29, 2020 Super User Posted December 29, 2020 Not sure why I’m even posting this but it more of an FYI. But I am serious about this. A lot of the Pro’s stand behind series of lures and lure colors/patterns. In all honesty I do quite well with some baits and bait patterns that “Ike” is attached to. What I’ve bought over the years has generally been very productive. I was more drawn to the specifics of the colors. These are baits that have previously worked great. Example the Rapala DT’s. His name is attached to time proven products. Maybe that is really telling me that color is not important. I don’t know. But may very well be. Please don’t get specific about a color or particular bait not really what I’m asking, but do you find this to be true in any cases for yourself. 1 Quote
Super User Mobasser Posted December 29, 2020 Super User Posted December 29, 2020 Not so much for me.My favourite color Roboworm is Folkstead Special. I chose it because purple has worked well for me over the years. I simply liked the color, and thought I would try it. 1 Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted December 29, 2020 Super User Posted December 29, 2020 I’m still unsure what the question is here??? ? lol 6 Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted December 29, 2020 Super User Posted December 29, 2020 I like to use the color that the great angler Green Pumpkin attached his name to. 3 10 Quote

Was thinking the same thing. But sometimes I get really wild and go with his brothers' colors. Black Flake GP, and Red Flake GP 2 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted December 29, 2020 Global Moderator Posted December 29, 2020 I don’t think I’ve ever bought any but the KVD squarebills, jerkbaits, and perfect plastics sure seem to catch a lot for everyone. If Shaw grigsby had a “big ole pigs” worm I would buy it!!!! 2 1 Quote
Super User FishTank Posted December 29, 2020 Super User Posted December 29, 2020 In general when an angler attaches his name to a product, my money goes a different direction, especially when it comes to reels and rods. On the other hand.... I just bought a Quantum KVD Smoke S3 and it seems pretty well made. We will see how it is come spring time. 1 Quote
PourMyOwn Posted December 29, 2020 Posted December 29, 2020 I pour a lot of worms, and I end up giving half of them away-no desire to sell whatsoever. When I give them to my buddies I always pull out a sharpie and sign the ziploc bag. "Here you go, these are from my signature series." 3 8 Quote

I'm a long time Rapala fan boy, the same holds true for Berkley (soft plastics), Missile Micro Jigs over the last few years and others. I do real well with their products. Products of theirs that are "Ike" branded I seem to do ever better with. Probably just a coincidence because the products are time proven. Y'all find the same with some KVD, Brauer, Hackney.......... type stuff out there? Many Pro's put their twist on things. Just starting a BS thread. Not looking for real specifics. I know you know how to fish, so don't I. A lot of trolls hit this site and didn't know how specific anyone wanted to get. Didn't need anyone's secrets divulged I like to figure things out on my own anyway. Thanks. 2 Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted December 29, 2020 Super User Posted December 29, 2020 I think I got what you were going for. For me, most times I could care less whether a pros name is attached to a bait or similar. If I like it or want it, I'll buy it regardless. If I don't, I won't. Don't think I've ever bought anything intentionally only because a certain name was attached to it...maybe the LC RCs way back when...but pretty certain I've NOT bought a thing or two because there WAS a name attached. I have also bought because a certain pro used/repped a product even though the product wasn't named after said person - for example, Poe's Super Cedar crankbaits/Fritts, again, back in the day. 5 1 Quote
garroyo130 Posted December 29, 2020 Posted December 29, 2020 I doubt anglers have any real input. I always picture the transaction going something like this Lure Company: "Hey pro angler, can we slap your name on a bait?" Pro Angler: "Sure, how much are you paying me?" Lure Company: "X amt of dollars" Pro Angler: "Alright, I'm in ... what type of lure is it by the way?" Lure Company: "A crankbait" Pro Angler: "k ... kewl. What color?" Lure Company: "Well we got a whole lot of blue paint left over from the last run of baits so probably mystic ice" Pro Angler: "neato" 6 2 Quote

I see what you're saying. Rapala crankbaits were popular and caught lots of fish before Ike was ever affiliated with them. Same thing with Berkley plastics. Those brands aren't synonymous with bass fishing for no reason. Lures with Ike's name attached to them perform well because they're already top-notch stuff. 1 Quote
Super User Log Catcher Posted December 30, 2020 Super User Posted December 30, 2020 Like @FishTank I usually spend my money elsewhere. I don't buy anything that has some pros name all over it. There are some that I have seen and heard enough about there attitudes and behavior I will never buy anything they endorse. Quote
KDW96 Posted December 30, 2020 Posted December 30, 2020 The only things i wont buy,are labeled with- ike-. 1 Quote

There are exceptions, but Ike has put his name on some products that I wouldn't use if they were free. The Ike approved VMC weedless wacky may honestly be the worst hook I've ever used. On the other end are the Neko and the Rugby head which I really like. 2 Quote

jlb6 Posted December 30, 2020 Posted December 30, 2020 Little different than what you’re asking but the only lure I ever bought because of an attached name was my first River2sea Whopper Plopper. I was a huge fan of Larry Dahlberg and always loved to watch him work in his garage on lures in his show. 1 Quote
schplurg Posted December 30, 2020 Posted December 30, 2020 I have a whole lotta baits from some guy named Ozark Trails. He must not be very good though because they're only $1.94 each! Sorry weird mood tonight, going a little crazy. 1 2 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted December 30, 2020 Global Moderator Posted December 30, 2020 I've got some of the A-A-ron colors of Duo Realis jerkbaits. They're sweet colors but I didn't buy them because of the name on them. 1 Quote

Super User Spankey Posted December 30, 2020 Author Super User Posted December 30, 2020 Just for the record I'm not pushing anything "Ike". Don't even know "Ike". Not getting any freebies, have to buy all my own stuff. Probably coincidence that some of his stuff falls into my way of fishing. As with some RoboWorm colors that work well for me with AARONS name attached. Rapala has a new flat sided 6 out or coming out. These fall in line with Rapala's I fish. They will work for me without a doubt. Ott DeFoe bait. It's marketing I guess. I'm just lucky things I try are not usually duds and get put in a junk pile. I generally don't fish a lot of brands. Super User Choporoz Posted December 30, 2020 Super User Posted December 30, 2020 I didn't know of anything other than some hooks with his name on it.....but now that I think about it, I have caught a lot of walleye on a Lazy Ike. Bet they would catch bass, too 1 1 Quote
Super User scaleface Posted December 30, 2020 Super User Posted December 30, 2020 I dont buy lures because a pros name is attached to it either but I expect a jig with Denny Brauers name to be superb . KVD and spinnerbaits , David Fritts and crankbaits... Quote
