I have one suggestion:  Tell us more ....about your budget...about the waters you fish...about the weights you want to use....about what you have used up to now and what you like or don't like about other rods...about whether you have a store close where you can handle different rids, or if you will be ordering online, sight unseen....and anything else that might allow us to be more helpful

^ What he said - could be anything from a $55 Aird-X to a $590 Steez...and that's just Diawa.

Eloquently stated.

for a budget im looking to spend a max of around 200cad. I fish small mouth bass so i don't use very large weights, I'm looking to pair the rod with a lews tournament pro speed spool lfs. the only store i have near to me a a bass pro shops i will probably be buying it there.

Looking at BPS/Cabelas Canada - right now they have the St. Croix Premier split-grips on sale for $160. Other options would be a St Croix Bass-X or a Diawa Tatula.

I’m a fan of bass pros carbonlite 2.0, mine is the 7’-0” med power fast action which I find versatile enough to use for light jigs/T-rigs,spinner baits even light cranks/lipless cranks. In other words a good all around rod. If they do a spring classic sale up by you they’re even a better deal on sale. They’re $120.00 reg price here in the states. I’m pretty sure they have a 6’-9” med heavy extra fast also.

Hopefully,  they will let you handle the rods with a reel attached.  I suggest that you look at rods that have one of these designations written on the rod:

Medium Heavy - Fast (MHF)

Medium Heavy - Extra Fast (MHXF)

Medium Fast (MF)

Medium Extra Fast (MXF)

Sounds like a wide range, but there are no real standards and any rod marked with those above could be called something different by another manufacturer.

-The designated lure weight can be confusing,  too.  I suggest you look at rods where the low end is no higher than 1/4 oz ....no hard and fast rule there, but a suggestion.

Handle a couple or few rods with a reel attached and get the one in your budget that feels best.  Cool thing about buying first few baitcast rods is that the Bait Monkey is close on your tail and you don't have to worry if this isn't the perfect rod....you'll be shopping for more soon....even if it is perfect for you
