I have spinnerbaits that are old and getting older everyday. Idk how but I’ve amassed an excessive amount. I chose a new never used spinnerbait back a few weeks ago and after a few casts the crappy band had fell apart and my skirt was gone and now I’m looking at all these spinners thinking how am I gonna save them? What are my options?

Excessive amount of spinnerbaits in this case means a couple hundred. It would be a major investment to replace. Could an idiot like me wire tie them and remove the junk bands on them?

I've had a handful fall apart this year (only Stanley's for some reason), so I grabbed the roll of safety wire and the appropriate pliers, and added a couple wraps to every spinnerbait in the box.

Little zip ties work.  Or, get some 24 gauge copper wire from Home Depot and wrap yourself.  I'm not the least bit dexterous, but I can wire tie well enough.   PM your email,  and I will gladly forward a tutorial that @cadmansent me years ago.

Fishing Skirts .com--If you have alot its way cheaper to build your own. Also, you can get the exact color combo. Get the wire at Home depot. I use braided line to secure them, and have had no issues. Much cheaper than tackle warehouse and amazon.

I actually tie my swim jig skirts with old braid  pulled off my frog rod...works good.

Wrap them with thread, copper wire from a craft store, bread ties, or small cable ties. Cable ties is the fastest, wire is the best looking imo. I already make a lot of my own stuff and wire tie it all so I always add wire to my store bought spinnerbaits and jigs.

You sound like an A&P to me!

I got some thin copper wire and wrapped some. But it seemed like too much work for me. So, I put a small zip tie on all my spinnerbaits and jigs that aren't already wire tied. The wire looks better and may last longer but zip ties are working so far.

As Roland Martin pontificates, "you only need two colors: white and chartreuse for spinnerbaits."

So I added the white/chartreuse mix to what Roland said.

Seems to work as long as you can bounce the spinnerbait off of something in the water.

Once they're broke, there isn't any putting back together a spinner bait skirt.   Buy some replacement skirts for the ones that are already broke.   Use something heavier duty than a rubber band to reinforce the ones that ain't broke yet.    I used some plastic covered florist wire that I got at a crafts store.

I had some old spinner baits and jigs and the band that holds skirts were old and cracked. Some I replaced with new skirts from BP/Cabela's...

Others were reinforced with some old braid fishing line. They are holding up well.

.020", but just stainless. I have a bunch of .020", .025", and .032" from my time as a structure mechanic. No A&P, as I didn't do any powerplant work, just heavy structure (primarily) on KC-135 and C-130.

I knew aircraft was in there somewhere calling it safety wire lol. I still have .020”, .025”, .032” and .040” in my toolbox at home, of which most is probably 30-40 years old. I bet my safety wire pliers are over 40. Comes in handy making wire hangers for large picture frames and mirrors!
