Hey all, long time reader first time poster here. I’m a new to baitcasters and am experimenting with line. I just read the post where everyone recommended starting with mono until comfortable, but I’m comfortable enough to move beyond mono. I current have 30lb braid on one and 12lb fluoro on the other.

Anyway, I’m always looking for effective but less expensive options for tackle. Has anyone bought line off Amazon and if so, what do you recommend? Is there a noticeable cost savings? Thanks

Forget Amazon

Right now there's deep discounts on various lines at Tackle Warehouse though Jan 8...cheaper than you can get them off Amazon.

There's been horror stories of line bought off Amazon - not the right stuff, seems to already have been used then just re-wound...etc. Buy your line from a tackle store, not the monstrosity.

Bought lots of line off Amazon Yo Zuri Hybrid, Sufix 832, P Line (various), Big Game, PowerPro braid.

The only dud was the PowerPro which appeared to be a fake. Since it was sold by Amazon, they issued full refund no return necessary.

You really can't go wrong on Amazon though as long as its sold by and shipped by Amazon. The free shipping also makes all the difference when buying single spools. Any sales on Tackle Warehouse will be offset by the shipping unless you plan on spending more than $50.

As to the "best" line, they have it all basically so its up to you as far as what you want/are willing to spend.

I run Yo Zuri Hybrid for the most part bc I find its a good compromise at its price point. But I will be trying some Sunline Shooter and Sniper in the near future.

What @MN Fisher said is correct. With a reputable Stateside retailer, you know what you're getting.     jj

Free shipping from TW over $50 too.  And that doesn't take many spools to get to $50.

Hello @BassSTL and Welcome to Bass Resource ~

Bought plenty of line from Amazon & E-Bay - FC & Braid mostly

Been on both sides of the good deal / fake line stuff at least one time.

Day in & day out, Amazon has the best deals on FC.

Specifically Seaguar InvisX and Tatsu 1000yd spools -

As mentioned above TW sales get close and this time were the better deal.

Actually went that way myself last week on Tatsu.

Either way if on the rare chance you get a bum spool of something

returns are easy on Amazon and using PayPal on E-Bay is surely the way to go.

I have bought several lines off of Amazon over the years......  Seaguar Tatsu  (best price I have found), Seaguar Invizx, Seaguar Smackdown Braid, Seaguar Gold Leader, Sunline Defier, Sunline Defier Amarillo, Sunline Shooter, Sunline Sniper, Sunline X-Plasma braid, Trilene XL 100% Fluorocarbon,  Trilene Big Game, Runcl mono (cheap and not bad line), and Runcl Fluorocarbon (didn't care for it).

I really never had an issue with Amazon but the potential to get bad line is there.  Just watch out for who sells the line through Amazon and check the reviews.

I can dis-recommend a don't buy braid - KastKing - tried it because it was inexpensive - way too hard and abrasive - relegated it to deep backing.

Otherwise, I routinely grab Seaguar and Sufix 832 from Amazon (Owner, Tactical Angler, lures) - especially with Prime, I think you can trust what Amazon stocks in their warehouses.

I recently found a good deal at Walmart. Suffix 832 braid 10-40lb braid on sale $9 vs $21 normally (Canada). Too good a deal to pass up so picked up a few spools, even though this year I am experimenting with big game mono for my baitcasting setups.

Have used kastking in the past and yes its a 4 carrier braid, abrasive, and thicker than most, but I paid $13 for 550 yards on ebay so not a bad deal, I have liked it but in the end prefer smooth 8 carrier like suffix 832.

Here in Canada there hasn't been too many fishing deals so I take what I can get. Walmart of all places, go figure.

I am on my third, 1000yd of Invizx 15 lb flouro spool from Amazon and it has all been fine and saved me a ton of money.

Gamma Polyflex. I don't know if it's available on Amazon though, you would have to check. It's also available on the Gamma site.

Just look at reviews, Amazon is fine to buy line from. However x2 on checking Tackle Warehouse for what they have on sale.

Check out MidwayUSA. They have a bunch of line at 30 to 50% off. Some stuff is limited but worth checking out.

I can tell you right now Academy has better prices than most places if they carry the brand you want.  Amazon had Power Pro for $24 for a spool.  Academy had it for $19.

Cheap fluoro will be a waste of time and cause for a lot of frustration, maybe some swearing and so forth.

Trick thats not a trick.... Everyone can get Suffix at 50% off all year!

All you have to do is be a member of Bass University and you get access to Suffix at a huge discount. I don't know why more people don't take advantage of this. You also get a 40% discount on Flambeau and deals on other stuff as well. It blows my ind theres people out there payin full price for Rapala, VMC, Storm, Suffix etc when it can be had for 50% off. The Sufix Advance Fluorocarbon is good line. Casts well, abrasion resistant... I've been using it exclusively for the past year and never have I had an issue. I can't say the same for other name brands.
