trout123 Posted December 27, 2020 Posted December 27, 2020 Caught this nice bass when I didn't have a scale and I'm guessing it weighs around 5 pounds, any other opinions? It's hard to see in the picture but the fish was built like a football. 2 Quote
The Bassman Posted December 27, 2020 Posted December 27, 2020 You need to hold your arms out farther. Then it could be a 6. 2 5 Quote
Super User Boomstick Posted December 28, 2020 Super User Posted December 28, 2020 My guess is 3.5 - 4.5lbs, but it could be bigger, it's hard to tell from a photo. 2 Quote

Super User jbsoonerfan Posted December 28, 2020 Super User Posted December 28, 2020 Looks long and thin, I would say 4-4.5 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted December 28, 2020 Global Moderator Posted December 28, 2020 4.5-5 would be my guess. It looks like you have the fish's belly turned in slightly towards you, which makes a big difference in how large the fish appears in a picture. A good cameraman would have told you it was tilted away from the camera so you could have tilted it back to center and got the full glory of the fish in the picture. Quote

Next time I'll wait for someone who isn't only going to take one picture and go away lol! I've got a video on my phone of the release and the thing is built like a tank, sucks you cant see it in the picture. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted December 29, 2020 Super User Posted December 29, 2020 Somewhere around 4-1/2 lb. Quote

Super User Koz Posted January 1, 2021 Super User Posted January 1, 2021 Nice catch. I would say in the 4 pound range. In my expert five pounds and up is really noticeable. Guesses wouldn’t be in the 3-4+ range. Quote

Biglittle8 Posted January 9, 2021 Posted January 9, 2021 There is actually a chart on the "In Fisherman" web site that has a table of length to weight estimates that's a pretty good tool. I use it when I pond fish. I marked out 20 inches from the butt on my rod (small sharpie mark) and will use that as a guide when I want a quick estimate. 20" equals around 4.5 lbs. ( It's pretty accurate, I checked it with my scale a few times) that being said, if it's in that range or has a huge belly I get out my scale! https://www.in-fisherman.com/editorial/bass-length-to-weight-conversion-chart/156649 Quote
