I bet the dog wanted to share the kayak though!  Thanks Mr. Abram for your service.  Many friends went to Nam without me, some didn't come back.  The draft went away before I did.

About the only thing you're getting for $150 is a 8ft Lifetime kayak. I would be afraid of my fat ass sinking it as I exceed the weight capacity. You'll want a few extra dollars for a PFD.

If you get to Iowa/have relatives in iowa? There are two really nice old town canoes on craigslist for free right now. Just an option!

I think I'd go with those inflatable yaks on page 1 of this thread. I almost did that before I found my yak.

Need an air pump (at least I would), a paddle, and pfd. Get one used for 5 bucks, we just sold a bunch of nice ski jackets. Make a paddle out of a piece of wood if you need to be super cheap. Wood even floats!

I picked this up on sale on Amazon for 130 or so. I made a floor out of plywood I already had. Got a life jacket for around 40 bucks. Made an anchor out of an old 8 pound dumbell and some walmart rope.  I am 6 foot 2 and 250 pounds and its find for just me. Its a good joke how they say its a 3 man boat.  For one its comfortable and I can even stand up in a pinch with my 3/4 plywood floor. Boated all last summer but I only go to places where there is no motor or only electric motor allowed which is plenty up here in NY. I did take it out on Ballston lake though and the motor boat wakes didnt scare me too much as I thought they would.  Real workout rowing this thing though. I got a attachment for my cordless drill in gonna try out in the spring to see if I can at least get out there easy.  For me its all about space because I got no place to store a boat and only drive a sedan. This whole set up can fit in the back seat of my sedan with the plywood in the trunk. I actually keep it in my car year round it does not bother me for space.  Takes me 10 minutes from getting out of the car to have the thing pumped up and ready to go.

Something like a 5 gallon paint mixer?

I used a trolling motor prop. It worked, but I did not find it easy to control. But my inflatable is different and I sit up higher, so it may be a different story with his boat. On high speed I was moving. Just hard to keep straight with the prop off to the side. I also ditched the oars and went with a yak paddle.

You should easily be able to find a used sub dolphin kayak or something. Not great but it will get the job done. I've fished out of a 10 foot sit in kayak for years.

How much are the dues to join a local bass club as a co-angler?  That's a different direction than most of the advice above, but may be worth looking into as an option.

An inner tube? JK. Scour Craigslist and Offer Up. My buddy got a basic sit inside kayak for $100. It's nothing special, but gets him on the water every now and then. I'd really say you should save up to about $300 and you'll have some better options.

If you ever come to brockon Massachusetts I have a old canoe that’s really beet up it’s been over waterfalls  flipped of the back of a truck and sunk a cupule of times but with some gorilla glue and duck tape it should be good and a small fiberglass dingy that you can have for free just need to come and get them I’ll even help you load them lol

I started out six years ago in a used Pond Prowler that I bought with a small trolling motor for $300.

Now I have a Bonafide SS127 with a Bixby motor, Garmin with Sidevu, and little tweaks and mods..........

Not to mention I also started with bringing two rods and now bring six to eight depending on where and when.........

so at least I started cheap........lol

You can definitely get a used kayak on craigslist or other online site for $150 and fish out it. I have bought several over the years. This will likely be a kayak you sit in, and won't be rigged for fishing; but really you can fish out of just about anything that floats (and isn't a touring or whitewater boat). I don't love shopping craigslist though, there are usually something sketchy or far away or unappealing about the seller.

The best deals though are driving around on the weekend in the spring, for garage sales or if you can drive near or along lakes, out in folks front lawns with a for sale sign. I can't buy any more kayaks, so I no longer stop; but I am sure I will violate that rule again soon.

Don't let the negative jerk offs who feel the need to tell you what you cant do discourage you from your goals. Keep an eye out of FB market place or eBay for a fishing tube.. Buy some cheap waders and some fins or paddle pushers ( i prefer paddle pushers myself) and go fishing ! 150 is a tight budget but i see tube for sale on fb for 75-80 bucks all the time offer them 50. The seller will probably have a set of fins or pusher you can grab up for 10-20 more bucks. have fun and enjoy fishing!!

I would consider looking at Kayak rental shops as well. I just picked up a slightly used Old Town Topwater 106 for $650. I know it's more that you want to spend but it's a great little kayak.
