Conclusion Posted December 26, 2020 Posted December 26, 2020 Hello, I was fortunate enough to receive a tatula 150 from Santa yesterday. Upon taking it out of the box to 'test' it out, on the third time that I pressed the thumb bar down the reel handle wouldn't move to engage the thumb bar back up, it was frozen. After a few seconds of panic I reduced the drag (it was cranked down) and was able to move the handle and engage the thumb bar back up again. I don't see how this would be normal or okay but I an new to baitcasting as of this summer so not entirely sure. Is this something I should be concerned about for this particular reel? I've since tried replicating the 'issue' and cranked the drag down and no issues at all, everything else seems to work fine. Thanks for any insight. Quote
diehardbassfishing Posted December 26, 2020 Posted December 26, 2020 I'll guess this is what happened. Without knowing it, there was pressure on the thumbar when started to crank the reel to re-engage the spool. Especially easy to do inadvertently when cycling the spool release with the reel in hands without a rod. Of course can with rod attached too, by accident. Been there, done that. Very rare to induce the spool's mechanism to do this. Like a Las Vegas slot machine! BTW - changing the drag setting had very little to do with the reel freeing itself. It came back with just the motions around the handle. Edit: As bulldog1935 said -"next time that happens, rotate the spool backwards (wind direction) with your thumb". You could have also turned the spool a bit while handling the reel, releasing the mechanism. Just never force anything - nothing good comes of that! No worries. Karl 1 Quote
Super User bulldog1935 Posted December 26, 2020 Super User Posted December 26, 2020 next time that happens, rotate the spool backwards (wind direction) with your thumb. You were just in a bad angle on the freespool ratchet mechanism. Abu's are terrible about this. 1 Quote
