I've been making pizza for years and ever since I built the addition to my house back in 2000 I've always wanted to put in a brick oven. My family got me this:

Ooni Karu 12 Multi-Fuel Pizza Oven– Ooni USA

Let us know how that works, looks neat.

I got a $100 check from my Dad, and a $100 check from my Mom.

I'm 53 years old.

I told them either stop sending the checks or adjust them for inflation!

Same thing I usually get every year, an empty checking account, paying for all the stuff my wife got everybody else.

Same story every year.  We're not going to do as much for Christmas this year, but then, when you have grand kids and great grand kids, it's always we've got to get this for one, that leads to, we can't get this one something without getting something for another one, that's when the snowball starts rolling down hill.  Come Christmas eve, you can't get within 6' of the tree for gifts piled around it.

Then there's is always that fall back when it comes to me, "How do you buy somebody something when they've already got everything".

I received a new Pelican Bass Creek fishing kayak, and a paddle and anchor. Im pumped to use it in both fresh and saltwater!

Careful what you wish for.  I built me a nice 36" ID, wood fired oven a couple of years ago.  Made mine using castable refractory in four sections (copied FornoBravo) to prevent cracking, 5" of 8 pound insulating mat and stuccoed dome on a 6' square, stuccoed box with wood storage under it.

This was all sitting on a 6" thick, 6' square reinforced concrete slab in the corner of the back yard next to the garage.  When I got it done, thought I was through.  WRONG!!!

We had to have a slab for a table to eat. so I poured a 12'x12' slab from the wall out, having the oven in one corner.  Thought that was going to do it.  WRONG!!

We had to have a place chairs and all to sit around and BS.  So, I poured another 12'x12' slab onto that one, making a 12x24 slab.  Thought OK, that should do.  WRONG!!

We had to have more seating area and potted plants around, poured another 10'x12' slab so now you walk off the back porch onto the patio slab.  Finally, I'm done, WRONG!!

Now we need a 12'x16' pergola over the patio.  OK, get that done and she will finally be happy.  WRONG!!

Before I even get it finished, she wants a 10'x12' addition onto it.  Got all that done and think, finally, I'm done.  WRONG!!

After screwing down almost 200 2x2's every four inches apart for shade, that's not enough shade, Now we've got to have a nice metal roofing on all of it.

So, my idea to build me a wood fired oven to bake breads and pizza's in, has bit me in the butt big time.  SO BE AWARE, you could get more than you really thought.

Then you have the enclosure I had to build for a refrigerator we had to put out there.  A 10' concrete counter top with a sink in it and the slide out cutting board under it.  The flower beds all the way around, and walkways.   Then fenced in area on side of the house to evict the dogs out of the back yard.

I would like to skip with a BC too for the power and control but I just can’t. I think I need to use a better setup though.

For now I’ll stick with the MH spinning setup, which I used several times during the season with a weightless stick bait. I use 20 pound braid on the reel too.

I really would rather they stop sending it. Not even sure why. I don't do Xmas, haven't bought a present for anyone in a long time. I'll go to Xmas dinner but that's all it is to me. A time to be with family. I've outgrown the "presents" thing (for me).

And I don't receive gifts well - I dunno I just feel unworthy somehow even on my birthday. Or maybe because my old school Dad taught me to earn it myself?

I'm thankful but it seems a bit silly. I am VERY glad that my parents are still healthy! That's all I want.

Believe me, I know where you are coming from. I wish we could all just hang out with family and not have to go shopping. But when you have women in your life, you just gotta roll with it hahaha

Oh for sure, that changes everything. My ex dressed as Mrs. Claus one year and, well....it wasn't much...a hat and er....well no scrooge from me that year!!!

This is the first year I didn't have to make up an excuse not to go to Xmas! I told my Dad that and he laughed. I did visit my Mom though, safely. What a year...

Edit:

I think you and I are the only ones on the forum - seems like we've responded to each other several times in the past 10 minutes in different threads.

Hmm...

I enjoy shopping for my wife, "kids" and grand babies. Like most guys, I don't

really shop, I buy. No in store for me this year and I miss that part of the holiday.

However, online provides a better opportunity to buy exactly what you want.

Get a Tatula. I did this year because everyone recommended one. That gave me the confidence to actually make a real attempt at skipping. I watched a video Brian Latimore put out about skipping docks then I went out on my dock and stuck with it until I got it. That’s all I did for 2-3 hours over two nights was just skip off from my dock. Of course I had backlashes but not terrible. After getting it down pat I switched to a cheaper reel and I was skipping no problem. That being said I know the Tatula was the key to keeping mistakes to a minimum while getting the muscle memory.

Mark Zona said on his show once you get it figured out, this is something you need to keep doing even if it’s just practice or you’ll your accuracy. We’ll see what happens when the ice melts.

Hope this helps.

Which one do you recommend?  There's like 6 models out there to choose from.  Also what kind of rod would you pair with it?  A shorter, stouter rod seems to be easier for me to use when skipping.

I just have the Tatula CT 100. I’m more of a budget guy and found them on sale this summer so I snagged one. It’s a really nice reel for the price.

I have mine on a 7’ MH rod with a softer tip. I don’t know if that’s the right pairing (I probably should go shorter) but that’s what I learned on, and it’s a multipurpose setup, and I don’t really know any different.
