I use 20 lb power pro as my mainline, used to use 15 lb but bumped up to make sure my mainline was well stronger than my leader. Never had a problem.

what bad is supposed to happen?

Something about digging in?

I use 20lb and have no issues other than operator error.

I've read the same thing to go below 30#.  Being a newbie I am relying more on what I read than experience.  I think it has more to do with the brand of line as well. Especially those saying they are using 20# fine.  What I can say from my experience is I have a reel with 40# generic Stren and it takes a few cast to get wet before it seems to cast well. But I have 30# power pro and it works great all the time.

So to use the lighter braids you may just need to fine the right braid.

lol same here. Back lashes are on the knuckle head holding the reel.

It depends on the size of the gap between the spool and frame.  If the line is thin enough to slip into the gap then its going to become a headache real fast.

Ive used braid to leader on a mod action rod for bladed jigs in the past.  It worked, but I found using FC or Mono with a ModF - slower F to be the most effective and versatile.  Just because I wasnt crazy about it doesn't mean you wont like it though, so go for it.

If you do use a lighter braid dont put to much pressure on the reel when trying to get a snag out.  wear a glove or wrap rag around your hand and break off, that way the braid wont dig into the spool.

Make sure when you spool up the braid to put it on tight as possible.

I think you just called me a knucklehead?  When I did use braid I could feel the line dug in when I manually pulled it from the reel.

it’s why I’m asking questions.

It is funny, I hear this a lot. I have had my light jig/ finesse jig rod spooled up with 20lb. power pro for 2 years now. Fishing a jig is my favorite thing to do hence my most used setup. Zero issues. My heavy rod has 30lb. power pro. Don't really see the need for 40 or 50lb. line.

were all knuckle heads that backlash.   Backlash doesn’t have anything to do with the line test though.

For spinning I don't use less than 20lb and I go with a stiffer line like power pro, sufix performance and 832.

BC, I don't use less than 30lb daiwa j braid (not grand). For topwater I use 50 lb 832.
