Super User ChrisD46 Posted December 21, 2020 Super User Posted December 21, 2020 Curious what the next new main line you want to try is ? ... For me - the newer Sufix Advance Mono or FC lines. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted December 21, 2020 Global Moderator Posted December 21, 2020 I'm kind of at the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it", point with having Smackdown, Tatsu, Invisx, or AbrasX on most of my rods. I don't even know what lines are coming out because I haven't felt the need to look. 3 Quote

Most of my leaders have consisted of sunline fc 100 in 16-20lb.ive considerd trying that Lyn no fade dark braid for heavy punching, gold label in 12-20lb for leaders and wouldn't mind one more attempt at a straight floro mainline. My problem is I tried 12lb tatsu as a main line, and it felt like a rubber band to me. Id love feedback as to know if there are less stretchy main floors that are good, maybe shooter? Maybe going up in size limits stretch,? I've also heard about seaguar r18 hard But can't get much detail. Quote

Gamma Edge fluoro seemed to have less stretch, but it also has more management problems. To me, Tatsu was the best all around fluoro I fished and now the 15lb is my main line I use on all my jig and T-rig reels. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted December 21, 2020 Global Moderator Posted December 21, 2020 It took me a few years to get where I’m at now so I have no interest in changing anything. I use original Power Pro braid and Sunline Shooter and Sniper fluoro None have given me a reason to change. Mike 5 Quote
TBAG Posted December 21, 2020 Posted December 21, 2020 I'm just trying to decide on what I want to put on my new reel. I got a new 70 Curado MGL to pair with my 853c NRX for light t-rigs and jigs. I currently have a Curado K on it with braid and while I like it, I'd really like to try fluoro on this setup. Just going back and forth between line weight and brands. Quote

I could be wrong. I tried Advance. Loved it at first, even though it uses the old trick of larger diameter to impress with strength. I liked it because of the softer body. But I fish rocks, and it had poor abrasion resistance. Like many people here, I've got my lines sorted out to do what I want to do, the way I want to do it. It'll take something really, really different to catch my attention. jj Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 21, 2020 Super User Posted December 21, 2020 Seaguar Gold is a leader line that has a hard exterior, but is VERY manageable. Plus the line is thinner and stronger than similar rated alternatives. It's THE BOMB! I use this leader with Smackdown braid, otherwise Tatsu without a leader. 1 Quote
Dens228 Posted December 21, 2020 Posted December 21, 2020 I've used PowerPro and 832 for years........ My plan was to try a spool of Smackdown but with the sales at TW my plan went out the window and I'm trying five spools of Smackdown. 1 Quote
Super User bulldog1935 Posted December 21, 2020 Super User Posted December 21, 2020 I may be the longest-winded Seaguar fan extant - knot strength - but many have passed them up in braid. I have Smackdown on two offshore rigs, and don't plan to replace it until needed. The best-behaved braids I've fished (inshore and a little FW) are Sufix 832 and Florida Fishing Products Distance (pretty much OOS all year). What has my attention is YGK X-braid and Duel "Wire" from Japan. These are fine-filament braids with a hard core, hard silicone coating, and reported to have some elasticity before they break. What really got my attention, for the same diameter, they're over twice the breaking strength of 832. First spool, 22-lb PE1, I loaded on Team Pro SP, and love the way it casts light lures. Two spools of PE1.5 let me go from 15-lb 832 on my shallow spool surf reels to 30-lb. and this UL, replaced 6-lb Sufix 832 (PE0.6) with the same diameter X-braid and a whopping 14-lb test. Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted December 21, 2020 Super User Posted December 21, 2020 No intent to play around with main lines. Familiarity can be a very powerful tool. Constant line swapping is a weakness. Tatsu and InvizX on baitcasters; YGK and PP on spinning outfits. That’s it... ? 5 Quote

Super User Spankey Posted December 21, 2020 Super User Posted December 21, 2020 I’ve always been pretty much a Trilene guy. Still use some Stren mono. The Old Excel BPS Mono use to be some real nice stuff but those days are long long gone. Two line I’ve used the last couple of years on dedicated setups is McCoy co-polymer and SunLine SuperNatural Mono. 110% satisfied and was able to find them in bulk. Quote
Ben77 Posted December 21, 2020 Posted December 21, 2020 I use power pro ss v2 which I love. I hear alot of good things about smackdown and sufix 832 and 131 which I will try next. As for fc I use sniper and invizx and for mono I like trilene xl. Quote
newapti5 Posted December 21, 2020 Posted December 21, 2020 Finatic 7 strands braid. They've been out-of-stock for a while on their website; I thought the company was going south. I appear to be wrong, as they're back in stock now. Heard a lot of good things about them, but the high price tag kept me away. Quote
RichF Posted December 21, 2020 Posted December 21, 2020 I'm the opposite from most, I guess. I have tried many mainlines and currently use a bunch of different stuff. I'm always open to trying new line mainly because I buy what's on sale. There have only been a few lines that I've found to be absolute junk. Everything else has been serviceable. I do think I may give copolymers more of a look next year. Finding a cheaper alternative to fluoro is always a goal. Quote
Super User DitchPanda Posted December 21, 2020 Super User Posted December 21, 2020 I'm pretty content with my line choices. I am gonna experiment with braid on spinning this year for the first time but that's pretty much it for new stuff. I use Izorline xxx copolymer in 12 and 15 for most bait casting needs...and big game mono in 10 and 15 for treble hook applications. I have one rod with 50lb power pro for frogs and I'm going with light power pro...10 and 15lb...for spinning. Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted December 21, 2020 Super User Posted December 21, 2020 I'll be trying a few new lines this year. A gift of Smackdown Flash-Green for my finesse spinning rod. Another gift of Tatsu for my bottom contact BC. Some Sufix Advance for a couple rigs. And the last gift of AbrazX as leader line. Quote
Junk Fisherman Posted December 21, 2020 Posted December 21, 2020 I am going to try some new braids on my baitcasters. I am going to go with FINS Windtamer Pitch Black since it is getting great reviews. Sunline SX1 is another one on the list that I want to try. Gonna finally try Tatsu 8 lb for my straight, fluoro dropshot reel. I'll also use it for cracking tubes. Lines I am not looking to replace: 7 lb Gamma Touch for small swimbaits, 14 lb YGK G-Soul braid for Ned Rigs, and 6 lb Gamma Edge for leaders. 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted December 21, 2020 Super User Posted December 21, 2020 The Going to give Smackdown bright green 20 lb a try soon. Didn’t know about YGK or would given it a try out. Mono/Copolymer Max UG 5 lb and Sunline Armillo 11 lb no reason to;change. FC Sunline 12 Shooter and going to give 12 lb Tatsu another try out, needed fresh FC after several years of use. Tom Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted December 21, 2020 Super User Posted December 21, 2020 I've tried a lot of different line over the years and I keep coming back to Big Game. 1 Quote
