snake95 Posted December 20, 2020 Posted December 20, 2020 I'm interested in throwing S-wavers and Jackall Gantarel Jr's and have been collecting a few, along with some heavier gear to throw them on. The question I probably should have asked someone first: where do you like to throw these, and under what seasonal and weather conditions? I live in north Georgia and fish both small ponds and larger reservoirs; I also fish ponds and canals down in Florida. Someday I hope to fish them in clear Ontario lakes, but that will have to wait for now. I've taken up kayak fishing this year and plan to throw these baits from the kayak. Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted December 21, 2020 Global Moderator Posted December 21, 2020 I don’t have any idea what size the baits you mentioned are but I like the ones from academy, about the size/weight of a normal squarebill crankbait. I use them on river smallies, lost a beast on one last weekend. they also work well on reservoirs. All weather and seasons have worked so far, In the still waters you have to fish it painfully slow just to get it below 2-3 feet 1 Quote

The Gantarel Jr is a jointed, sunfish-profile swimbait, slow floating, 1.5 oz, 5 inches long. Quote
Dens228 Posted December 21, 2020 Posted December 21, 2020 I had some success using the S-Waver on flats early morning. I don't have much success with them though. Part of the reason could be that I don't use them enough. 1 Quote

By flats do you mean shallow bays and shallow areas between points? Are you swimming them across the flats over vegetation or other cover, or are you covering sandy or rocky areas where bass tend to be roaming? Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted December 21, 2020 Global Moderator Posted December 21, 2020 I don't own either anymore as I wasn't a big fan of either bait, but really anytime that I think the fish are going to be in a chasing mood, or I just want to try for a bigger bite. 1 Quote

I fish a lot of quarries which make for some nice large flat areas that be large or small.......and they are fairly old so a lot of vegetation with some bare spots. I will retrieve over the tops of grass but like to get it out over the bottom openings and long the edges, same as I do with other moving baits in those areas. I actually tend to use swim jigs, chatterbaits, spinnerbaits much more though. 1 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted December 21, 2020 Global Moderator Posted December 21, 2020 I got another one for Christmas from my brother yesterday. He said he bought it on Instagram! Hahaha 1 Quote
galyonj Posted December 21, 2020 Posted December 21, 2020 That looks real nice. I wouldn't mind having more little bitty jointed swimbaits like that. They're fun to fish. 1 Quote
