Daiwa Tatula Elite Baitcast - screeches on cast

Brand new reel is screeching the first 20-30 feet into a cast. Any idea what’s causing this? Casting distance is very good but this noise is annoying and it can’t be manufactured to sound like this out of the box.

Guessing you didn’t oil and grease it? These r dry out of the box a lot . That may be your issue .

I did not....just take the side plate off?

Personally I would tear it down .  It may or not be the issue but I’m guessing it is dry regardless. I’m sure some of the other guys will chime in.

screeching on a cast isn't a grease lubrication issue on a TWS reel due to the the pinion being disengaged and lvlwind not being engaged as well. The most likely culprit for a loud reel on a cast is the spool bearings/pinion bearing. These are the only things that are engaged during a cast that would cause a "screech". Clean the spool bearings first.

Return/exchange if you still can... I have 4 of them and all have cast silently like butter out of the box.

I usually take the spool out and put a drop of oil on both sides.......

Yep, thankful it was a simple solve. Disappointing that Daiwa doesn’t have it oiled out of the box.

My 2020 Tatula SV tws came completely dry of grease, and there was the smallest amount of oil in the bearings. After adding both it's very quiet and smooth.

Just an FYI,   The rotors can also get bound and canted.  This caused a screech on a cast.  I pulled the rotor out ever so slightly and let it snap back in alignment. Good to go.

I've only had one out of the box that needed it.   The rest I did after extensive use.  I'm semi retired and have summers off, and even when I work I only work 2-6 pm.  So I fish A LOT, probably six days a week.  Any reel will need oiling.......lol

I have a Steez SV TWS that did the same thing but just did a normal clean and lube and it was fine.  With mine it was the spool bearings and the spool making contact with the frame.  Overall, the reel was dry out of the box.

Yup, rotor (commonly called the inductor, or inductor cup), can have "new issues".

The inductor, on 1st inspection, didn't move in/out cleanly. I think a very fine amount of machining metal dust was on the shaft where the inductor rides.

After removing the spool c-clip, disassembling the system, cleaning everything, putting a thin layer of oil on the shaft and reassembly, all was well.

This spool was in a Mag Z reel. SV could have the same issue.

Pretty disappointing in daiwa but I've got to where I just break em down and lube em up right out of the box. Never needed to do so with other brands but I like the daiwas enough that I'm willing to do it! Pretty well documented at this point you'd think someone would take notice and fix the issue.
