tackle.jpegLike kicking in hard core.. been Sporadically getting out til last week when winter really set in now with snow.
I think this is going to be one of the tougher winters getting through for me anyways ..  tearing it all down and trying to aimlessly reorganize which I will do all winter out of boredom... but is fun.

I've already been through two re-orgs of my bags/boxes.

Still have two rods due in - but won't even mount reels until they've been gone through...which will be about March.

Sitting - twiddling my thumbs waiting for spring.

I feel sorry for your northern boys.  I tried ice fishing when I lived in Minnesota.  Couldn't get into that.  That ain't right !!

Here in the Kansas City area, we run a little winter tournament circuit on some of our local lakes.  We have our first one tomorrow.  Been too hot.  We'll fish until the lakes freeze.Once it gets really cold and nasty, pretty much the same half dozen guys come out.  Just a little coffee can tournament.  $30 entry fee, but a lot of fun. Some years the lakes freeze in January, and we go into boredom mode.    Some years they don't and we fish all winter.

I've lived here 33 years and never have had to winterize a boat.  Had to drive to Table Rock a few times, but only 3 hours.

I did take all the "non-cold weather" stuff out of the Skeeter today and hauled to basement.

Precisely why I can’t wait to move back out West.

I’m burning up my vacation time so I don’t lose it. I’m off for the next 9 days, then work 2 maybe 3 days then off 4-5 days, so I’ll be organizing tackle, and going through my reels.

My reels r the one thing I’ll wait on a little bit.. when fishing just wraps up I’m still to rammy if that makes any sense.

This is why I try to pick up a new hobby every winter, really helps to pass the time. Last year was 3D printing, this year it's rod building. Next year is probably going to be pouring soft plastics I designed with the 3D printer, lol.

The boat also needs a full rewire, so that'll eat up some time too....

Doesn’t even look like winter here. It looks more like late October. The lakes are all mostly froze good now but some of the grass is still greenish. No snow either.

I guess I shouldn’t say bored yet.. just don’t want to settle into winter. Never do . Winter is the Devil. That’s what mamma always said lol

Yeah it stinks but it is what it is. I've lived in northwest Iowa for 20 years and every winter I wonder why I'm here!

Figure might as well take the time and boredom and do some organizing, sorting /planning for next summer. I find it helps unplug from everything going on, call it therapy :)

Well I am going to fish anyday I can go when temperature is above 40. Hope it's a lot lol

I usually have about a month between open water fishing and safe ice, sometimes only a couple weeks. I usually go through all my tackle and re-stock things with the Christmas sale on TW. Then spend a couple weeks cleaning all my reels, respooling line etc. Then it's usually 3-4 months of ice fishing and praying for an early spring!

The wife and I have been talking about moving back to Florida. The only issue is the grand kids. I guess it's a wait and see.

Reorganize plastics.

Sharpen or replace hooks.

Restock low inventory

Clean reels.

This should take me through the end of January.

The PNW is great for this, open water all year long, but a fair number of high mountain lakes that freeze solid just in case you have to scratch that itch and remember that your not a young man anymore...

Real nice! That's a spotted? Not sure how wide spread they are here in PA. I'm sure somewhere.

Yes it's a Spot. I focus more on them in the winter as they don't seem to mind the cold and will hit a spoon if you get close to them.
