Academy is running a sale.  If you had to choose between the SLX DC and Tatula SV TW, which one would you pick?  They both seem to be good.

Tatula sv for me. Not a big fan of the DC reels. Solution to a problem that doesn't exist in my opinion.  Obviously lots of guys love em tho. Im sure either would be satisfactory. The sv is the easiest casting reel to use ive ever had in my hands. Doesnt win any distance awards tho. If you want ease of use and controlled casting get the sv. If u want to bomb baits get the dc.

You'll get differing opinions right down the party lines. Shimano and Daiwa fans are often very opinionated and brutal. 

 

That said, I own both brands and enjoy them both. I do not own a DC reel as I have no use for it. A good set of brakes and bearings is sufficient for me without some circuit board monitoring and interfering with my cast. I'm sure there are others who have a differing opinion and I respect that. I just don't see the need.

 

 I do enjoy the SV line of reels due to the fact they allow me to cast much lighter baits into the wind and with better accuracy. The SV spools are not designed for distance, IMO. They really shine with T-rigs, spinner baits, buzz baits and the like that often cause issues when casting into the wind. They also are great for skipping jigs and paddle tail swim baits. YMMV.

I got a Curado dc as a gift.  I liked it well enough to buy another one.

Both are good reels.  If I were choosing, it would depend on what I was going to use it for.  

 

If I were new to baitcasters, and was looking for a good general purpose reel> the SLX DC.  If you have some experience with baitcasters and a DC reel is not a big deal, then definitely the Tatula.

I think if you want to throw light baits the Shimano SLX MGL is worth a look. Love mine, and it's more equal to the Daiwa Tatula Sv, as both excel at lighter lures. The DC would be better for something like spinner baits on a windy day. Don't own any DC reels as I don't see the need for them, rather keep the thumb sharp. Either way, they are both good reels, just prefer Shimano. Had a Tatula and a Fuego, both gone now.

IMO Daiwa is improving the state of the art with technology leaning toward angler casting skills. Shimano is trying to make a casting reel to target unskilled casters like using a spinning reel. 

Your tuned thumb is the only digit that doesn't rely on DC technology.

As an admitted Daiwa fanboy, I'm going to be biased and say the Tatula SV would be a good choice. While I have zero experience with the Curado DC, I can't really say much about it. What I can say that might be useful should you go with the Tatula SV, I don't think you will be disappointed in the SV's ability to cast and skip lures without a backlash. You would be better off with several Shimano reels or a Daiwa Tatula Elite if max casting distance is your goal though.

 

One thing to note with the DC reels is people really seem to love them or hate them.

I have owned both.  I have zero use for a DC reel. In my sample size of one each, the Tatula was smoother and better  casting for me. The SLX felt cheap in comparison, but did have better ergos.
