Jim Sutter Posted December 17, 2020 Posted December 17, 2020 When it comes to jerk baits, do you prefer Rapala or Megabass Vision 110 and why? Also, what are your preferred colors? 1 Quote
Hook2Jaw Posted December 17, 2020 Posted December 17, 2020 I used to only throw H2O Xpress Ultimate Jerk Shads, and have done pretty well with them for numbers and size. I've never had success with Rapala jerkbaits. I've never bought a Megabass Vision. My faith is currently in the H2O Xpress baits for faster jerkbait fishing and the Jackall Rerange 110 for fast and cold water jerkbaiting. Quote
Jim Sutter Posted December 17, 2020 Author Posted December 17, 2020 Thank you Hook2Jaw. I will give both of those lures a try. Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted December 17, 2020 Super User Posted December 17, 2020 I prefer both but they are two different animals. I use the rapala husky jerks both regular & deep divers HJ14 for the excellent suspending action & because they are a larger profile with good depth control. My best colors have been glass perch, purple perch & clown. If I'm fishing in pike waters the less expensive HJ gets the nod over the 110. The 110' 110+1 & 110+2 are great baits but better suit a smaller profile for me like an Ima Flit. Best color with them is french pearl, kchoku reaction, ito wakasagi & gg deadly black shad. But all their colors look hot. 3 Quote
Jim Sutter Posted December 17, 2020 Author Posted December 17, 2020 Dwight Hottle, Thank you for that information. I have never fished Jerk Baits but I'm hoping to change that this year. Please take care and stay safe. Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted December 17, 2020 Super User Posted December 17, 2020 I like Lucky Craft Pointers over Rapala Husky Jerks and I have many of both. I like Rogues over the Husky Jerks. My issue with Rogues is that every one seems to be different and require varying amounts of suspend dots to work right. I haven't drank the Vision 110 Kool-Aid yet. I did get a set of the Rick Clunn Vision 110 knock offs marketed by Walmart a few years ago - they look ok in the water but I haven't given them a real fair test yet. 2 Quote
Smells like fish Posted December 17, 2020 Posted December 17, 2020 Welcome back Jim! I’ve been missing those extensive lists of quality lures on the bait monkey thread. There are many good jerkbaits out there. I’ll be looking forward to reading what you choose. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted December 17, 2020 Super User Posted December 17, 2020 I like the Megabass Vision 110, the Vison110+1, the Strike King 300 and the 300 Deep. The colors pictured here are some of my top producers A-Jay 2 Quote
NittyGrittyBoy Posted December 17, 2020 Posted December 17, 2020 This year I've been throwing 6th sense provokes. I enjoy their crankbaits so much I figured I would try their jerkbaits. So far so good, been steady producing fish each outing. I want a Vision 110 but everytime I put one in my cart I talk myself out of it. As much people talk about them, I know they work phenomenal. If they didnt then they wouldn't get the hype Quote
Jim Sutter Posted December 17, 2020 Author Posted December 17, 2020 Fishes in trees, Thank you for your information on the Jerk baits that you use. Smells like fish, The reason I haven't been posting is because I fell in June and cracked my right hip. Then I develope a thing on my left hip and leg called a carbuckle. As of last Friday, it is completely held. Now I can start out patient physical therapy. A-Jay, I'm leaning towards Megabass Vision 110. Nitty Gritty boy, I have never heard of 6th Sense Provokes. I will have to check them out. 1 Quote
Michigander Posted December 17, 2020 Posted December 17, 2020 I have a couple Vision 110s and quite a few of the Strike King ones. Can't tell a difference in the amount of fish they catch. Vision 110s are prettier to look at hands down though if you care about such things. Don't like the Rapala ones. They run fine but don't seem to get bit very much for me. Quote
GetFishorDieTryin Posted December 17, 2020 Posted December 17, 2020 X Raps are good JBs and I catch alot of fish on them. I think the x rap biggest weakens is the hooks and casting distance. They arent cheap either, some places charge 12$ for them and you still have to change out of the hardware. For a few more dollars you could get a Duo or LC and both of them have better hooks and colors that are as good or better. If you can get them for 8 or 9$ then they are worth it. I throw x raps in places I wont throw a MB or Duo or there are a lot of pickerel around, because if i lose the X rap is no big deal. The MB is just a better all around except maybe for durability. I like MB for late fall and winter when the water is at its coldest. They are really close to a true suspend out of the box and that important when your pausing for 8 and 10 seconds. MB Vision 110 MB Sexy Shad GP Sexy Shad Deadly Black Clear Laker Western Clown Quote
Big Rick Posted December 17, 2020 Posted December 17, 2020 Jerk baits are a Pandora's box. The possibilities are truly endless. As bad or worse than finding that perfect crank bait. Jerk baits suspend, float, rise slowly nose up, sink slowly nose down, and all sorts of other actions depending on retrieve and rod action. The actions vary wildly as well. Some are more finesse (110) some are more aggressive (Jackall Rerange). So, no one jerk bait will always catch fish. You'll just have to dive in, read a ton of info, watch a ton of videos, buy a few different ones, and go fishing. 2 Quote

r3825 Posted December 18, 2020 Posted December 18, 2020 I've had great luck with the shadow raps, almost boated my first double with one but the second one popped off before I got them in. I have some provokes but haven't tried them yet. Haven't bought the megabass yet but that d**n bait monkey is in my ear. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted December 18, 2020 Super User Posted December 18, 2020 I'm a Rapala guy 1 Quote
Jim Sutter Posted December 18, 2020 Author Posted December 18, 2020 Michigander, Thank you for you information. Rusty Shackleford, Thank you for that great information. I especially liked the information pertaining to the lures hooks. that's great to know. Big Rick, Thank you for all the wonderful information on Jerkbaits. Boy, do I have akot to learn. Catt, I believe I have a few Smithwick Suspending Rattlin Rogues. Once I'am able to go up and down the stairs I will look and see. Thanks for that information. 2 Quote
Super User Bird Posted December 18, 2020 Super User Posted December 18, 2020 Pre-spawn is the time of year where I'm tunnel vision, throw nothing but Jerkbaits exclusively. Luck-E-Strike because I'm frugal. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted December 18, 2020 Super User Posted December 18, 2020 I've never had much luck on jerkbaits around here. The only one that seems to work consistently is a clown colored Smithwick Rogue. Quote
dgkasper58 Posted December 18, 2020 Posted December 18, 2020 Megabass wins for me. Excited to get the 110 +1 jr this spring! 1 Quote
Jim Sutter Posted December 18, 2020 Author Posted December 18, 2020 Bird, Thanks for your information. Like I said, this Jerkbait fishing will be all new to me. Right now, I will be willing to try diferent brands in a ton of colors. Bankbeater, I have always been partial to clown color lures. I don't know what it is, but I will tie one on before using some other color. dgkasper58, Thank you for that information. Right now, I'm leaning to purchasing a nice variety of different colors of the Megabass 110 jerkbait. Quote
