I went to Tampa in 2015 for a week and my wife and I went inshore fishing for a day with a hired guide. We targeted snook, redfish, and sea trout. We kept one of the redfish that were in the legal size slot and had it prepared by the grill at our resort. It was fantastic. It put up a heck of a fight too when I hooked into it. 2 Quote

Next time you visit Florida you should try catching a keeper sized snook during snook season and cook it. It is one of the best tasting fish you can catch from the shore. Quote

Not too crazy about squirrels. Would probably would like them more is I were around someone who cooked them up correctly or differently. I prefer dead cow, pig and chicken. 1 2 Quote

It was cajun blackened. I went on a 3 day saltwater trip with my Father to the Keys in March 2018 and we kept a 3 pound yellow snapper one day and the resort grill made that one for us. That was also very good. 2 Quote
Big Rick Posted December 18, 2020 Posted December 18, 2020 I've raised 5 boys and 3 girls on bass filets. And like @Catt, when Mama says she wants fish it's time to hook up to the boat! I will say that sometimes she mojo's me by saying that, but I always try to keep extra in the freezer just in case my trip doesn't turn out as planned. 9 Quote

skekoam Posted December 18, 2020 Posted December 18, 2020 Call me a wuss, but after a day of fishing which I love, the last thing I want to do is eat fish. My favorite fish to eat is probably halibut although I've never caught one personally. Even the sight of a fish bleeding makes me anxious. I stick with C&R. Quote

I caught a few in Alaska and flew them home in the overhead storage compartment! No kidding Quote

Super User Mobasser Posted December 19, 2020 Super User Posted December 19, 2020 I'll be thawing out some crappie fillets to fry up tomorrow night for dinner. I like mine with a shot or two of Zatarains Cajun hot sauce. Hard to beat! 2 Quote

Super User bulldog1935 Posted December 19, 2020 Super User Posted December 19, 2020 both my daughters are natural fishers - they took to it, and fish completely without anxiety and klutz, which only women can do. My older daughter fished one fly for two years on our tailwater (not one pattern, one fly) My younger daughter, though, her favorite part of fishing was always the fillet table. 1 Quote
Alex from GA Posted December 19, 2020 Posted December 19, 2020 Walleye, white bass, Alabama bass. Quote
schplurg Posted December 19, 2020 Posted December 19, 2020 Who? Is that a fishing thing I don't know about? I'm gonna do some trout fishing soon. I'll eat some if I can get 'em. I'd try different fish, I just haven't caught anything interesting. Been primarily bass fishing for two years. I ate a striper I caught a few years ago. It was good. I didn't have a knife that was even close to sharp so I shredded the poor thing (popcorn fish pieces), but I cooked and ate every piece I could get from it. It would have survived if I'd released it, I just decided to bring one home that day. First time I've caught and cooked anything in 30 years. Looking forward to more. 1 Quote

And I just met my first grandson yesterday evening. And so it moves forward another generation. Time to go hook to the boat. Another mouth to feed! 2 Quote
Super User slonezp Posted December 19, 2020 Super User Posted December 19, 2020 Deep fried Great Lakes perch is by far my favorite freshwater fish to eat. Blackened mahi mahi for saltwater. I eat a lot of panfish, walleye, and bass but only from certain lakes. I'll usually stock up the freezer in spring and fall when the water is still cold. 1 Quote
Mr. Aquarium Posted December 19, 2020 Posted December 19, 2020 Strictly saltwater fish. Sea bass, bonito, pollack, cod, striper, lobsters, oysters, scallops, haddock, tatutog, quahogs, you name it. Lives in the ocean I’ll eat it! 1 Quote
tander Posted December 19, 2020 Posted December 19, 2020 To me it is hard to beat crappie followed by bass, bream, catfish. Quote
Michibilly Posted December 23, 2020 Posted December 23, 2020 Top three for me are Pompano, bluegill, walleye/perch 1 Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted December 23, 2020 Super User Posted December 23, 2020 I eat any kind of fish. If I was a condemned man, fried fish would be my choice for a last meal... My favorites in saltwater: Sheephead, red snapper, Flounder, redfish, whiting, black drum ,spots, croakers. I catch all of them except dont get red snapper much because they are offshore and very limited to harvesting . Freshwater: Catfish, esp. “ butter “ cats ( yellow bullheads ) and channels, then brown bullheads. Any kind of bream, but redbreasts are my favorite. LM bass- I keep only 12-15 inch ones to fillet. I will eat specks( crappie) but dont fish for them much... 1 Quote
jtharris3 Posted December 24, 2020 Posted December 24, 2020 At the top of my list are Bluegill, Crappie, Trout (including Steelhead), and Salmon. Although I wouldn't turn down a walleye or catfish dinner. Quote
sdsc357 Posted December 24, 2020 Posted December 24, 2020 Striped bass and salmon are my favs. This year my brother caught a thresher shark and it tasted like beef. You get lots of meat from them. Have a friend who tried 15lb carp. He said they tasted fatty and oily and that the fish smell is still on his landing net even after a few days. ? Quote
Sphynx Posted December 24, 2020 Posted December 24, 2020 Trout grilled with onions and lemon pepper is a meal not to be missed, fried catfish or crappie is a fine meal too, salmon/steelhead make exceptional eating too, I generally refrain from eating bass, unless it gets gut hooked and I feel like it, otherwise it gets left to fulfill its destiny at the hands of the birds or whichever other critter grabs it, got a buddy who likes to do bluegill too, I will eat them if he wants to bother with preparing them, otherwise they go either on a hook as bait or back in the water to catch another day. 1 Quote
Whatever Posted December 25, 2020 Posted December 25, 2020 I grew up in the era before "catch and release", when fishing was as much food gathering as recreation. When younger I spent 10 seasons working commercial boats in Alaska, and the seafood was phenominal. But the finest fish I have ever enjoyed was fresh caught Yellowfin Tuna and Wahoo, straight from the sea. It was usually accompanied with fresh caught Spiny lobster, and it was just exceptional! 2 Quote
Super User Darth-Baiter Posted December 27, 2020 Super User Posted December 27, 2020 Walleye is king of the freshwater fish for me. I cooked these right out of the water in Oregon. 1 Quote
