Mbirdsley Posted December 16, 2020 Posted December 16, 2020 My new St.Croix 7 ft m/l premier showed up today and on time. This thing feels awesome. This is my 2nd premier the other being a 7ft UL. This new one I plan on ned rigs, shakey head , tubes and other finesse stuff. Just need to find a reel. I was kinda thinking of a penn but, the Diawa BG has been looking better and better. Just have to wait and see how many cabelas cards I get. 5 Quote

TheBasslayer Posted December 17, 2020 Posted December 17, 2020 Nice looking rod! I don't spend too much on rods but I just got a 7'1 MH St. Croix Bass X spinning rod. Hope your rod is good! 2 Quote
Super User bulldog1935 Posted December 17, 2020 Super User Posted December 17, 2020 my favorite St. Croix is 7'2" MM Legend Glass - my go-to inshore spinning rod. Remarkably light in hand for S-glass, and crisp moderate action. Here starting the morning at a tide pass (stacked with bait) using a wake bait. It also gives just the right action to TSL grasswalker, which is basically a neutral-density, subsurface, dog-walking jerk bait that gets right in the zone in shallow grass. I'll normally fish my MM baitcaster drift fishing a kayak with the wind behind me, but you can count on spinning tackle to be little affected by the wind... 1 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted December 17, 2020 Super User Posted December 17, 2020 I've got 2 premiers. They are good rods. Enjoy! 1 Quote
Super User GetFishorDieTryin Posted December 18, 2020 Super User Posted December 18, 2020 There good rods, I had 3 of them at one time. Unfortunately they had an encounter with automatic windows, after that they ranged from 6'- 6'7. Watching the window close before I could do anything was traumatizing. Penn really did a good job with there newer spinners. The line lay is worlds better then it was with the reels from a few years ago and they feel smooth and precise, not Shimano smooth but not a coffee grinder. The drawback with the Penns is the weight. The 2k Clash is around 8oz and the Vis, slammers and Battles are 9-10oz. I like the way the 7' ML balance with a reel about 7oz. If its just going to be a finesse rod look at the Fuego or Exceler, only difference between the 2 is the Fuego has Magseal. Quote

I’m not all that crazy about that rod. Originally I was looking for the same punching rod in a bass mojo but, BPS in auburn hills didn’t have any. 22 hours ago, Rusty_Shackleford said: There good rods, I had 3 of them at one time. I should have time off for the automotive shut down at Christmas. Which, means I should have time to look at reels soon. I’ve also been thinking about the diawa BG. We will see what I come up with and what’s available. imho I think the premiers are better than the mojos for only $10-$15 more. I like the mojo rods too I’m thinking if one of those for either another t-rig/jig rod or a glass deep cranking rod This premier will be a strictly a finesse rod. I have a dobyns colt ml I’ll use for Shad raps, jerk baits and other stuff 2 Quote

I like the mojo rods too I’m thinking if one of those for either another t-rig/jig rod or a glass deep cranking rod Penn went with function over feel, so they didnt feel great but they worked. When the small reels went to being made in China they weren't nearly as dependable and they weren't nice to fish with so they lost a ton of business. Recently they really stepped up the durability and precision of the mid level reels like the Spinfisher VI and Clash which are worlds better in durability. They managed to fix some of the infamous problems like the awful line lay that made the reel sneeze wind knots way to often. They also remedied the coffee grinder like feel of the older spinners, they aren't Shimano smooth now, but they feel great. The 2k size Clash 2 would be the reel to use on the ML SC. Its Penns lightest Spinner, it feels great to use and actually takes a good amount of punishment. I think weight is about the same as a similar sized BG. I have one of the first Mojos ever made that I preordered after the window accident. It should have never left the factory and honestly TW shouldnt have sent to me because there was a blatant blemish, the tip had a mean bend in it and the finish was sloppy. I kept it because I needed it and I grew to love it. Some of the threads are now unraveling, but that rod has caught thousands of fish and been abused for over 10 years so I cant complain. The new Gen Mojos are much better in fit and finish. They actually use SC3 blank which is a higher grade then the Premeirs SC2 being lighter and little more sensitive. The Mojos are cheaper because they outsourced production to Mexico and initially they used cheaper components. I'm not sure now if the components are the same or not. I think the Mojos are better then quite a few other rods that sell for more money, but that's my opinion. There are a bunch of people who favor the Premiers over the Mojos for various reasons. The Mojo Surf rods in particular had breakage issues, but the majority of people who had issues that I know bought the rods from Dicks Sporting Goods. Dicks keeps them on the racks above the shelves with the tips against the ceiling so that the rod is under considerable load. Add a bunch of customers handling them, then shoving them back into the rack and they are bound to be damaged. That's the same reason I wont ever buy a rod from Cabelas or BPS and if you buy a reel make sure to get one that hasn't been opened. 2 Quote
Super User NYWayfarer Posted December 19, 2020 Super User Posted December 19, 2020 I have rods in the Avid, Premier and Triumph series. Love them all. Great value for the price. 2 Quote
Mbirdsley Posted January 9, 2021 Author Posted January 9, 2021 My New Abu Garcia revo premier showed up for in store pick up at cabelas on Tuesday. I picked it up to day. Cabelas had the discounted $100 dollars + $50 bucks in gift cards I couldn’t pass it up. It’s a very very nice spinning reel and the best one I have now. Can’t wait for spring 2 Quote
