Super User ChrisD46 Posted December 15, 2020 Super User Posted December 15, 2020 Generally most agree a swim jig or bladed jig (chatterbait) trailer may be better with a tighter more subdued action versus a wider flapping action as one would use in warmer water ... The above said - what's your current trailer (3.75" ~ 4.25") line up for swim jigs and bladed / vibrating jigs in colder water? While I'd love to get by with the lower cost of a Havoc Grass Pig as colder water a swim jig / bladed jig trailer - I am realistically looking closer at the SK Rage Menace , KVD Swim-N-Shiner along with the Keitech Easy Shiner 4" as colder water swim / bladed jig trailers . Thanks in advance to share your current trailer favorites ! Quote

Super User DitchPanda Posted December 16, 2020 Super User Posted December 16, 2020 In cold water on a chatterbait I use a 4inch fluke alot. In cold water on a swim jig I use a single tail grub. But in most conditions by far my favorite swim jig trailer is a menace and its not even close. 1 Quote

I like the standard size. The baby menace is ok as well. The magnum doesn’t add much of any length and just increases the girth of the Menace. I guess the Magnum is good if you intentionally want more weight and bulk to toss it farther. Quote

I used to use ishads, but havent since I found these. They have a bigger profile then crazy tails or ishads and the 3.5 pairs up Zmans CBs well. TB is great, but when they recommend something it can be hard to get, so I wasn't thrilled when they mentioned these. 1 Quote
Luke Barnes Posted December 16, 2020 Posted December 16, 2020 If I throw one in colder water I'll go with a Rage Menace. Been looking at the Bio Spawn Vile Bug. Similar to a menace but shaped different in the tail. A fluke is a good idea too i think Quote

Big trailer lets me fish it slow during the colder water months and is more appealing to a big fish (more food for less effort). My baits have a 6/0 hook on them, so they handle them no problem and the trailer keeper keeps them in place. Little 12-15 inch fish wad them up in their throats and get the hooks all the time. Quote

I think the bigger boot tails can have a negative effect on the action of the bait especially the wider kicking baits. The majority of the time im using a fat as a trailer they're 3.3 or 3.8. The biggest fats I throw are 4.3s on Picassos bladed jigs because they have a longer shank then the z mans. Quote

Super User Koz Posted December 18, 2020 Super User Posted December 18, 2020 Blue/black Chatterbait Elite with a blue Zoom Vibe Spped Craw trailer. Almost every bass I have caught this winter has been on that combo. The best part is that combo works great year round. I have chatterbaits in many other colors and trailers in all shapes and sizes and nothing comes close. The overwhelming majority of what I catch is on either a chatterbait or a buzzbait. Quote

Here across the border in North Georgia it's primarily Green Pumpkin and Shad colors ... I may have to buck the trend and try a black & blue combo ! Quote
