I’ve painted the clear blanks before but I would like to get into making balsa crankbaits. Where do you guys buy your wood from? I’ve seen some online for cheap and other stuff that cost $40 for a 4”X3”X12” block. What are you guys using?

You can buy balsa wood at most hobby stores that sell model airplane supplies.  My local Hobby Lobby store has a small selection as well. Balsa wood is not cheap.

Even Hobby Lobby carries balsa.

Since it's all imported and they're still harvesting faster than they can grow it, the price has been going up and up for a number of years now. Don't expect 'pine' prices - think more like exotic woods such as 'purpleheart' or 'zebrawood' (yes, those are real woods).

Online will have better prices but Hobby Lobby does sell it.

I buy 3/4 inch and 1 inch dowels to start my lures.  Cheap and easy to start for your designs.  Just an idea.
