I've always used cheap polarized glasses fro Wal mart with amber lenses. This spring I'm gonna upgrade and I'm wondering what the best color lens is for all around? I know some are better for sight fishing, low light etc....but if you could have only one what would you choose?

Also I'm looking for suggestions in the sub $100 range?

Anything Strike King for the price you’re looking.

Even if your budidgt was $200 I’d suggest Strike King  S11

I'm a fan of Costa green mirrored. They are amber (copper) based. If you shop around you can often find them in the $100-130 range. Just research thoroughly to avoid knockoffs. I know that's a bit over your budget but its the best recommendation I can give.

Amber or copper are the best, Ive had my regular brown since stone ages, Last week I wanted to order oe only for fishing, something sporty, unfortunately couldn't find copper or amber and I went with Gold mirror(Blue mirror was my second choice), I was thinking the Gold color base more near to copper and amber than others.

I actually buy polarized glasses in volume, 4 pack for $15. Lol

Too hard on glasses to justify Maui Jim's.

Prefer amber.

Thanks looks my girlfriend is gonna get me a pair as a Christmas gift. Do you know if Costa's usually come with a case or do you have to get that separate?

Oh never mind I see they come with a case and cleaning cloth

Any Costas I’ve bought come with a case and cleaning cloth. I’m partial to the blue mirror 580g. I like the glass better as it seems to hold up very well compared to plastic as far as scratches go. I have one pair in the boat and a pair in the truck, the truck pair get used all the time and still are 100% scratch free ( and I’m a stonemason so there’s often some dust around me ?). I like the blue mirror ones, but maybe that’s because most of the lakes I fish are gin clear, they work very well for keeping bright sun out of my eyes and for seeing into the water.

It depends what you want to do with them and which company is making the lenses.  If your fishing big water like a bay or out in the ocean in sunny conditions I like blue lenses, they darken everything and cut out glare.  On the other end of the spectrum you have ambers and yellows that are still sharp in cloudy weather.  Orange, red and copper do better in brighter conditions then ambers.  Gray lenses are good all around, they dont make things as dark as blue but they do a little better with lower light then blue.  Green lenses are my proably my favorite all around lenses for fishing, they do well enough in cloudy overcats days and they are great in the sun, if I had to pick 1 it would be green.

I went with the Costa green mirror Montauk...they are on sale for 50% off...couldn't pass it up

Another one of those things that depend a lot on personal choice flavored with the science that says generally the colors which are proven to provide the best water clarity under various conditions.  In my case my eye surgeon treating the one eye I have left for the last 25 years recommended amber lenses for it.  I just do with Cocoon fit overs now and they work just fine for the good eye.  I keep two pair in the boat bag (aviator style), a pair in the truck and a pair in the family car.

Granted it’s all about personal preferences regarding manufacturer or frame type. As for conditions, polarized blue or gray lenses for bright light conditions and green amber for low light conditions works best in my opinion. Between my Oakley’s with Revant lenses or my Costas 580g’s I think I’ve got things, especially on the water, covered ?

Not at all, all Costa products are good IMO.

But some people find polycarbonate lenses unacceptable.

I'm ok with them that's all I've ever had. I know they claim to not be quite as clear or scratch resistant but the thought of them as a safety barrier makes up for that. I've been hit in the lens before with a weight and glass shattering in my eye scares me.

amber, sturdy frame, not half frame where the lense hangs free on the sides and bottom. Must have a curved frame look and the arms bend over the ears some not a straight arm.

The nose section must be formed with the frame not wire bendable nose pieces. Must be tight enough to be able to slide up to top of my head and never fall off also rotate them down by chin while still holding onto my head.

My glasses never come off my head all day, i dont ever lose them and i dont use a strap as stated above they fit like a tight glove.

I dont spend over 25.00 for recreational fishing glasses but i do spend $300.00 for my prescription sunglasses which only come into play for driving to and from the lake.

I use two different ones depending on conditions. Dark black for bright sunny days and amber for low light or cloudy days.

Smith has been my favorite.  I have found them at either Sierra Trading Post or Ebay for $100 or less. I can't see paying retail for these.  I like the blue mirror for bright days and the brown/copper mirror for over cast days.  My favorite frame is the Guides Choice.
