In California, is this winter yet? (W respect to fishing)

Not sure. Is this still bass fishing “fall”?  60 deg days here. 
 

‘I’m not getting skunked, but I’m also not impressing myself. I got three fish two days ago, one tonight in the hour I had to get my kayak out on the water. Tough tough tough!

 

will fishing get even tougher January and February?  I’m in NorCal. 

Suppose to rain Saturday,  I do have good rain gear!

For me, water temps help me figure out the seasons. Winter can be anything lower than 50 degrees (water) in the small pond I fish. Some might say 45 degrees or lower in a lake. Also, are you on the Delta, a lake or a pond? all three have different transition patterns. I could be wrong. So I will see what others think. That's my 2 cents.

Nor Cal & So Cal are as different season wise as Georgia & Virginia.  They just happen to be in the same state.

 

I'm in Orange County, south of L.A.  I contend we have about 6 weeks of winter, all of December & the first 2 weeks of January.  By the time the NFL is down to its final four, the bass have here have begun their prespawn habits..

 

My guess is that Nor Cal probably starts winter about 3-4 weeks before us and ends about 3-4 weeks after.

Water temp in the NorCal foothill lakes is generally mid-50's right now and I consider that to be winter time for us all the way through February and possibly even early March depending on the weather. I've had huge numbers days in winter when everything lines up (especially stable weather or just before a storm)... definitely no reason to stop chasing them. On top of that winter is one of the best times to catch a giant in CA.

I stopped catching completely several weeks ago, so it may as well be winter far as I'm concerned. San Jose.

Hmm. Some of my best fishing has been when it pretty dang cold out, i.e. water temps were in the low 50's. 

So, I'm guessing your not fishing where the fish are, or your presentation may need some adjustments, and a small probability that your baits may need some adjustment too.

All of that is possibly true, but I fish the same creek pretty successfully every week and it died several weeks ago. Fall was awesome. Now it's closed for the season too. I really wish I could find where they go all winter but oh well.

 

My local fisheries are very tough on the best days. I have a friend up at Don Pedro who is catching, but it's just so tough in the Bay Area. I'm gonna do a road trip up to some good lakes and streams soon.
