BEST RIG FOR HEAVY UNDERWATER VEGATATION?

I've been fishing ponds that have a ton of very healthy, green lush plants that grow up to about 6 inches or less from the top of the water.  

Throwing a regular crank bait for example is just impossible.  

I've caught a couple smaller bass using a Carolina rigged, Zoom worm, but even that is kind of hard to pull through the heavy weeds sometimes.

Can anyone suggest a way to crush some huge bass out of those weeds?  Texas rig maybe?

GYCB Kreature, weightless & weedless. I fish it like a spinnerbait or swimming jig: steady retrieve with an ocassional twitch.

Sounds good. 2 questions though.

1. Any kreature will work or do you have a favorite? Or does GYCB only make 1?  

2.  When weightless, how does the lure get down in the weeds as opposed to staying closer to the water top?

Lots of baits to try here.

There are several waking baits on the market.  The Bandit Footloose comes to mind as one.  River 2 Sea and Jackall make some also.

There are lots of plastics that can be fished over the grass.  A Senko comes to mind as does a floating style worm and many soft plastic toads like the Cane Toad or Horny Toad.

Also, for plastics, if the weight is not quite enough, you can get screw in weights down to 1/32 and I think even 1/64 oz.  These will add just enough weight to the bait to help drop it a few inches in the water during retrieve.

Another good product for weeds is the Reaction Innovations Screwed Up Bullet Head.  It is a screw in plastic guard that helps baits come through weeds with ease.  GYCB also makes a great little soft plastic nose guard that you thread your hook through before rigging your bait.

Of course, about any topwater should work over these weeds.

Another good bait may be a swimbait, like the Lake Fork Live Magic Shad.

Never tried that with the kreature.

I just fished a similair pond like this but i think it was worse as far as vegetation goes. I found that i had more success throwing senkos and baby bush hogs weedless and weightless than anything...

The thing is, I'm looking for a lure that is going to get way down there where the bass are.  I know I can fish lots of lures on the surface, or just on top of the weeds, but I think I need to pull a bait from 4-6 feet below the water top.  Like I said, a carolina rigged Senko or trick worm has done pretty well, but still gets caught up on retrieve a lot.   I go weightless but it doesnt get down deep either.

There are many "creature" baits, but the Kreature is made by GYCB.

Tentacles forward (skirt up). The Kreature has a VERY slow fall rate and when fished weightless will ALWAYS be in the upper portion of the water column. It glides over and through weeds when rigged weedless. To fish it deeper requires weight.

That's the problem with heavy grass, heavy baits get caught up pretty easily.

A streamlined Trigged plastic may be your best bet.  Something without a swimming tail, such as a trick worm or paddle tail worm.  I would use a screw-in or Gambler style weight and a straight shank hook.  This creates a package that has little to snag on the grass.

For line, I'd use a superline that will cut through the grass.

Baby Paca Craw texas rigged with 3/8 to 7/16 oz weight. Aim your casts for any hole you can see and let the bait fall on a slack line.

Strikes may come on the fall, if not try jigging it up and down a few times, if no bite then reel in and start all over agin aiming at another hole. Also, think outside the box, alot of anglers aim for large holes in the weeds and that works but try casting to holes the size of a coffee can or smaller.
