Hawgfinder Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 Hi bass fisher people I’m impressed with the fricken knowledge on this forum. Good geez I feel so uneducated I want to sell all my equipment associated with bass fishing and go perch fishing. Not really. I’m just saying that I did not know there are professional anglers on this site under assumed names giving advice. It’s great I appreciate it the advice is wonderful but don’t be a ghost, you’re an inspiration to us wannabes. But wannabes does not mean I want to be a professional angler. 1 Quote
Smokinal Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 The fishing knowledge on this board is unparalleled. Not to take away from any pro but there's some regular Joes that are incredible sticks as well. The best part about it is everyone is willing and eager to share their knowledge. I lurk a lot and read up. I try to offer help and my advice when I see fit and when I think I have something to add; but usually someone has it covered! 5 Quote
Super User jimmyjoe Posted December 8, 2020 Super User Posted December 8, 2020 There's a professional angler on this site, and he's not using an assumed name. Go to the forum that is titled, "Ask James Niggemeyer" jj 2 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted December 8, 2020 Super User Posted December 8, 2020 I'm sure some pros are offering advice and that is really awesome, but I bet more come here for the collective knowledge stored on our servers. It's crowd sourcing for fishing tips. Way better than any other social media platform I've been on. You can find a bunch of articles online about the Ned Rig that all basically say the same thing, but on this forum you can find 50 people in one thread talking about the nuance of it after spending a combined hundreds of hours fishing it. And that's just one of a 100 topics you can find in a day's posts. We cut to the chase, skip the filler, and get straight to the meat and potatoes here. If *I* was a pro, I'd be here almost as much as I am now. 19 Quote

Super User J Francho Posted December 8, 2020 Super User Posted December 8, 2020 Hobbyist sites are like that. I belonged to a couple photography forums that were way better than any class or book. 5 Quote

Ya - I do scale modeling during the winter, and one site I belong to made me cancel/not re-subscribe to the three magazines I'd depended on for years. The people there are just that good. 1 Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted December 8, 2020 Global Moderator Posted December 8, 2020 Don't take away from yourself for being a beginner either. I've been fishing my entire life, but a big part of fishing is observing and I've learned a lot from people with much less experience than I have. Everyone approaches a situation differently or has a different tactic they feel comfortable in certain situations and by watching others I've learned a ton from people who probably have no idea that I picked something up from them. 13 Quote

I have gotten used to feeling uneducated, it typically happens about the time I think I have it all figured out. 3 Quote

tander Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 No matter how long you fish, you can still learn, especially on this forum. 5 Quote
Super User Bird Posted December 8, 2020 Super User Posted December 8, 2020 Pretty sharp fella's on this forum with the credentials to be considered professional.....or at least give professional advice. I've follow many user names on this forum and their advice and explanations to technique are always consistent. Being open minded and willing to learn is key. In fact, most of what I've learned here I wasn't even the originator of the question asked. Lol 2 Quote
Dens228 Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 This site, and its video's on Youtube, and spending A LOT of time on the water are the origin of 95% of my bass fishing knowledge. 2 Quote
NoShoes Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 TacticalBassin feels more like an infomercial. What I like about here is I know they aren’t making money off the advice they give. 2 Quote

Junk Fisherman Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 Most veteran fishermen have specialties that they can share vast amounts of knowledge on. And the majority of us have areas in our fishing that we are not as knowledgeable on. So a forum like this is a great place for people to match up their strengths and weaknesses. I can help someone with light line finesse fishing and hopefully get the advice I need on topics I am less informed on. And you don't have to be a professional to give great advice. 5 Quote
Super User TOXIC Posted December 8, 2020 Super User Posted December 8, 2020 This is a good site. Not overly moderated and pretty open to discussion. Climate is such that members are comfortable enough to offer honest advice and opinions. That makes for good interactions. 5 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted December 8, 2020 Super User Posted December 8, 2020 I learned in my 20’s it was a lot easier to earn a pay check as a engineer then a bass angler. My career allowed me to fish all over the country and often near home. Best of both worlds. There are a lot of levels to pro bass anglers, few make to the top level. Amazed how long I have been on this site sharing what many members think is too much info! Tom 4 3 Quote

If you don’t believe me just watch when I hit my shin on the trailer hitch i loved that show where you threw Jerry Reed’s giant bass back in the lake when he wasn’t looking. but those catfish chunks you used to hawk were worthless. i tried to feed them to my cousin’s dog, but all he wanted to do was wall’er in them. 3 Quote
Luke Barnes Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 Im sure I'm thought of as the annoying guy who asks way too many questions haha. Ive learned so much here and i take the knowledge with me to the water every time I go. I practice what ive learned, use the suggestions ive gotten and I think make more informed decisions based on what I learned here. Ive only been fishing for four years and I'm a grown adult. So its never too late to start and learn from people that I'm sure some are younger than me, and no doubt some older lol. 2 Quote
