I may actually get out more often this year too. Working to arrange things with a PCA to come in maybe twice a week to 'watch' the wife while I'm out fishing.

Last year I only got the canoe on the water six times...ya, 6 of a 26 week season.

I think we need to put some sled legs under your canoe and make it an ice fishing snowmobile

Same issue that kept me off the water last open-water season would have applied during ice-season...plus I've never enjoyed ice fishing.

In other news, the melt is on - Emerald Lake - one of the Minnetonka chain...one of my shore-fishing spots.

Ya, gonna be 6 weeks of panfishing and creating maps on my Striker the way it's looking. Even if we have open water first week of April, bass season doesn't open until the middle of May.

Northern and Walleye open on May 15, Bass opens for C&R same date...if you want to keep Bass, you can't do that until May 29.

With 95% of the snow gone, I pulled the drive way markers

and 'put up' the Snow Blower yesterday ~

Apparently, it was just in time

May 15 is a late opener too, normally it would be about a week earlier and coincide with the same weekend as Mothers Day.

I'll take what I can get.  Even panfishing for a few weeks is better than staring at ice.  It can be fun if you get into a school of nice slab crappies.

Just got back from taking my daily cruise over to local Lake Menderchuck ~

and WE HAVE 80 % OPEN WATER ! ! ! !

Easily a new record for this guy.

Sadly the next three days are calling for Snow, Freezing Rain & Snow again with very un-fisherman friendly winds & air temps and the boat ramp is still way sketchy with Ice.

But the start of the week looks decent and I'll be ready.

So I've waited this long and it seems 3 more days might not kill me.

Either way, open water in March means this one's at LEAST a full three weeks ahead of

the 2021 predicter.

Who doesn't Love That ? ! ? !

Recent events had me advancing my boat prep time line quite a bit.

Not complaining though.

I expect another week here - though the 70 predicted for Monday will help as will the rain on Saturday.

Good deal man. I've already been out 4 times in the past few weeks since the ice came off.

This messy mix of freezing rain, sleet and snow will continue to impact portions of northeast lower Michigan this morning; however for the moment a least, this area has been spared.

My somewhat hurried Boat & Trailer preparations continue.

Successfully competed the first 'test tow' with the AT4 yesterday.

Predicated by the moderate lift kit in this new truck, this included a pre-ride trailer leveling.

Super important.

Looks like Monday is still a go but there may be a pretty stiff SW wind.

More to follow.

DNR is already posting ice-out dates on lakes in the metro area here.

Nokomis

Taft

Harriet

Swede (south of Watertown)

Keeping my eye on it - once Dutch or Little Long open up...time to get the canoe in the water.

Good for you my friend ~

Here's to as many opportunities to be on the water as possible.

While there's some challenges involved with that (and I think you know I can relate)

you've earned them; many times over.

Stay Safe.

Twin lake in Robbinsdale just a few miles north of my house is wide open as of March 24.

I think by Tuesday most lakes in the "metro" will be ice free.  Like you said, rain on Saturday and possibly 70 on Monday will get 'er done.

We've got a long time until bass season opens but panfishing in a watercraft is still better than staring at ice.

And I've gotta test out this winter's mods on the canoe and make maps with the Striker...so the lead time is nice in a way for that.

Annnnnd my poop still isn’t in a group. The weather isn’t looking good this weekend so I’ll get my certification testing done for work this weekend and “hoping” to set sail the following weekend BUT I’ve got a lot to do in a short period of time and dig season is here so work is crazy busy right now.
