Hi guys, so I have been reading up on the Orochi line, and due to the gen 1 EMTF being for bottom contact and now being for treble baits, it is gets a bit confusing what Megabass rod I want.  So, I am looking for a new rod for throwing 1/2oz plus trailer football jigs in 5 to 25 ft on 15lb fc. This will be around mostly rocks and some light to moderate brushpiles, but not super heavy cover I have seen some people say get the EMTF (but I think that is relating to gen 1 Orochi), I have seen some swear by the Braillist, and I have read some people saying at 1/2 the Braillist begins to feel over powered. What model would you recommend I go with?

I have the emtf and it's marketed as a treble hook rod but it's sneaky powerful and sensitive

After reading tackle tour's review of the Braillist, I wouldn't see why it wouldn't work - especially with fluorocarbon I wouldn't be worried about it being too strong. Maye a little if you're using a light wire hook.

I did see the buyer's guide where he recommended the new EMTF for that and the Braillist specifically for pitching.  I dont have anywhere local I can go to get my hands on these two. I appreciate both of the above two comments and I have read that article as well. It is confusing which way to go though when it seems like everyone likes both styles for this type of fishing

@cjam93 I just edited my comment because I found where Matt used the EMTF for football jigs, specifically for finesse football jigs with braid. The slower tip compensates for the braid's lack of stretch. He did also list it as an all around jig rod in another video but I wonder if that's the older model or he meant to put the Braillist which is usually what he recommends

I don't have an EMTF but do have a Braillist that I use exclusively for jigs.  It's been my jig rod the past two seasons and don't see any reason to switch.   If you're using 1/2 oz jigs I'd go with the Braillist.

I just saw that, thanks doing that! That makes a lot more sense now, especially with how much he likes braid.

I do think I am going to go with the Braillist. I have never spent more than $150 on a rod before, so I am really excited to get it.

Thanks everyone!

So I just went back and looked again at the video you linked. To further complicate things, that jig is the 1st gen, which is the EMTF that was made for dragging bottom. You can tell by looking at the rear grip.

I really wonder if he realized they changed that when filming the new buyers guide. I assume he did the guy is smart and always does his research, but I am confused on this lol

You know, I didn't even think to look for that.

I had a similar issue. I was shopping for an all around jig rod a few weeks ago, ended up with a Daiwa Steez 7'5" MH-H/F "Bottom Contact" rod. Matt Allen recommended the 7'2" Steez as an all around MH for jigs and whatnot, but in the video he mentioned he only had the older model. The newer model is listed as a spinnerbait/deep diver rod and MH/R which is like mod. fast usually, but I'm fairly sure the older model wasn't all that much different. Anyway, the FMJ was a rod I was also considering, so while I've never owned a Megabass rod, I'm fairly familiar with some of the models in terms of bend from reading about them and also from PunchFishing's Youtube channel.

One thing I learned is I would not want to throw a 1/2oz football jig on a MB Destroyer Daemos. It's like a MH- in backbone but has a bit less tip. Maybe it could swing a 3/8oz in open water, but even still I'd prefer it with braid or light wire hooks. Where the FMJ would be a little bit heavier than I would really need for a 1/2oz football jig, but it should still work well especially with straight fluorocarbon. And if you don't have a good rod for casting or pitching jigs, that might be something to consider. The Braillist is listed as a 5.5 power and is supposed to be a little bit lighter but a good all around jig rod for structure fishing.

I've seen some people prefer heavy rods for football jigs but usually with a mod. fast tip but not always. I'm not one of them, as if there's weeds or too much wood, I'm probably not using a football jig.

So I also went back and rewatched his newest video on rods. He actually states that Megabass intends the rod to be for treble baits but it is a great fb jig rod. I talked with a Megabass dealer in the US that also handles these rods a lot and fishes with them personally and he agreed that the EMTF would fit my needs extremely well. Mix in the fact that the Braillist along with most other Orochi rods are not available until around Mid-April, I decided to go with the EMTF. I found one in stock last night and ordered it. Worst case if I dont like it for fb jigs Ill look at the Braillist and the other ones you mentioned when they are available next year, and Ill have ended up with an apparently versatile rod I can use for other applications.

Thanks again for all the help, really excited to see how this rod is and start playing around in the higher end of gear.

@cjam93 Nice. The one thing worth noting is that Matt Allen is almost always throwing braid to leader at least for the past several years. One thing to note is Sunline Sniper has very low stretch for a fluorocarbon from a stretch test that @FryDog62 did a few winters back - haven't actually used it yet but that may be worth a try too if you don't want to switch to braid and find the tip is a little too slow or maybe just cause.

Worst cause is you have a pretty sweet all around moving bait stick

I actually talked to the dealer about the difference between braid and FC as well and he told me that after handling and fishing the EMTF he still did not think that would be an issue. I actually do typically fish Sniper, but the dealer was talking about how good Daiwa J Samurai FC is and offered to spool the reel I bought from him as well in that line free of charge. Super nice guy! Itll be about 2 weeks before I can get out to fish but I will let you know how it goes!

I meant dragging football jigs in 5 to 25 ft of depth. Haha sorry that was not very clear on my part

I just picked up some 20lb for my Steez SV. I have heard it compares to Tatsu and Shooter and I got it for $22 so I figure I'll give it a shot. No idea what the stretch is like.

Even if you don't end up likely the newer emtf for jigs you'll find plenty of uses. I use mine constantly. Outside of being able to be Done bottom contact rod that has a softer tip and action it's fantastic as a chatterbait rod, topwater, swimbaits, small cranks, big cranks, lipless. It does it all! It's not even the lightest rod but its always on my deck.

FYI I fish braid to floro leader.

So unfortunately I wont be on the water again until next weekend, but I did get the rod in today. It feels absolutely amazing I love it. When I was surprised at how much back bone it had. I honestly feel like getting good hook sets will not be an issue with this rod. I think is going to work great for this actually

I don't know why they call this rod a medium, it's got serious power but the light tip allows you to throw anything. Honestly, these are one of those unique sticks that I think I'll always want to keep in my lineup.

Yeah, I wasn't worried about lack of backbone on the EMTF, more so lack of tip. Usually I like a little tip on a MH football jig rod, but MF if it's heavy.

I cant wait to fish with this rod but from initial feel I have to say I agree. I love how it feels
