Super User Jigfishn10 Posted December 3, 2020 Super User Posted December 3, 2020 Just wanted to stop in and say hello and happy holiday's. The retina in my left eye separated a couple of years ago leaving some permanent damage to my vision. Even with prescription glasses it's hard to tie a lure on a line let alone picking out a birds nest in my baitcaster. Although, I should be able to do the latter blind folded at this point...?. So fishing has been pretty much on the back burner for a couple of years. I feel like a hypocrite coming to a site like this talking about fishing while not being able to get out there and performing it. That's about to change in 2021. Although I won't be chasing freshwater bass I will be chasing saltwater bass. I got rid of 2 Zodiac boats this past year to make room for a 2021 Edgewater 158 CS which is being shipped up in early March. With some mods to the mooring I have in Kennebunkport, ME, it will sit in the bay for the season. I'm hoping to learn a new (to me) technique of drifting and vertical fishing on a dropper rig. It will hopefully be less tying and casting for me while I drift over reefs, rocky bottoms, wrecks etc. for black sea bass. I'll probably set-up a tube for trolling for striped bass as well. So, I'll be active a little more asking questions about the Garmin electronics that comes equipped on the boat, questions about the drop shot - the dropper rig is pretty much the same and weights for the water depths I think I'll be fishing. I'm really looking forward to this new journey and look forward to pulling up an ice block to lend an ear and learning from you all again. Happy Holidays! John 2 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted December 3, 2020 Super User Posted December 3, 2020 Hi John, ~ Welcome back. Those circumstances are clearly bogus but like always, seems you're making the best of it. Congrats on the new rig and best of luck moving forward. Stay Safe A-Jay 1 1 Quote

haggard Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 Hi John and welcome to the forum. Sorry about the eye but that's why you're given two of them. Good to have backups. Congrats on the new boat; it's basically the same as what I got a couple years ago, a 15 ft center console bay boat which does great for inshore in our area. Pick your days carefully and it can get farther out. I love the versatility of a boat this size. Fairly new to salt water fishing here and have had some success with vertical jigging using a small 1/2 oz diamond/blade style jig - very simple but catches cod, mackerel, sea robin. For stripers, using mackerel chunks has worked, and for non vertical techniques, the Savage Gear paddle tail on a jig head is great. Looking forward to hearing how the new boat works out and hope to see you on the water. 1 Quote

Super User DitchPanda Posted December 8, 2020 Super User Posted December 8, 2020 Well I'm new here but im also happy to say welcome back. Glad to see your perseverance in dealing with this eye issue deciding not to let it hold you back from fishing. 1 Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted December 8, 2020 Author Super User Posted December 8, 2020 You may not have been been around for that long @DitchPanda, but your making a positive impact. Thank you for the kind post! I appreciate you. I’ve been told the same thing about the boat I’m getting @haggard, “it’ll surprise you that it’ll perform more than just an inshore boat.” Would love to get out on the water with you one of these days?! Keep in touch. Thank you so much for the kind words. Merry Christmas! Quote
