Eddie101 Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 I indulge PB&J from time to time, but I'm not convinced that the fish will enjoy the same. I've never bought or used that color in fishing although I see quite a few makers are using that color combinations. If you have one, when - under what conditions - do you throw it? 2 1 Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 2, 2020 Super User Posted December 2, 2020 I have good luck with this color combination, especially targeting smalljaws. More specifically, Rage Tail Structure Bug rigged on an Owner J-rig. 3 Quote
Super User scaleface Posted December 2, 2020 Super User Posted December 2, 2020 It has purple in it and I use purple a ton in all conditions . 1 Quote
Michigander Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 Yep. Solid color combo. Metallic purple with a peppered tan is my preferred. Seems to work best in brownish water. Clear water green and blue. Probably same deal for the fish, just compensation for the light color filter. 1 Quote
Super User Catt Posted December 2, 2020 Super User Posted December 2, 2020 I've been throwing Jig-n-Craws for 50+ years, black-n-blue & PB&J have been two staple colors. I don't remember if Junebug gave rise to PB&J or PB&J gave rise to Junebug. 3 Quote
Super User DitchPanda Posted December 2, 2020 Super User Posted December 2, 2020 I myself haven't had good luck with it but I can't say why. Its basically a light brown and purple mix both of which are extremely fishy...together I can't seem to make it work well. 1 Quote

Super User WRB Posted December 2, 2020 Super User Posted December 2, 2020 Very old standby color combination that pre dates silicone skirts by more then a decade in the 60’s. Vinyl jig skirts had purple/ brown and brown/blue take your pick both work. Anywhere Anytime is my name for black/purple/brown......does it work....you bet just look at my avatar and 5 PB bass listed. Tom 2 Quote

That doesn't necessarily mean Jbug came first, because brown and purple is an OG color and I would imagine PBJ evolved from brown and purple. PBJ can really vary from brand to brand or even within the same brand. 1 Quote

It's a great color combo. I end up tying them myself most of the time. Quote
Super User WRB Posted December 3, 2020 Super User Posted December 3, 2020 June bug is maybe 1980’s color with dark green dark purple with green flakes and popular in Florida. During the green weenie time period June bug was referred to as purple weenie a regional thing. Good color combo. Tom PS, brown/blue with blue trailer we called doodha, very popular in the Delta. Looks like you’ve used a watermelon seed trailer on these. What was the thinking in that matchup? Joe Quote
LCG Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 It's one of my go to colors for trd Ned rigs. Used it jig skirts as well and has worked well. Quote

I haven't caught much on my black and blue jigs that have a bunch of blue. Quote

Joe Ya, that pic is not the best - The trailers there are Green Pumpkin Purple Swirl and Green Pumpkin Purple The thinking was - if my jig & trailer don't match my left eye starts to twitch Jig & trailer choices are all about confidence for me. If it worked before, hey it might work again. A-Jay 1 Quote

Luke Barnes Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 I think of PBJ as a bluegill imitating color. I have green pumpkin purple flake baits but no skirts that are PBJ. Closest Ive found for the ned rig is green pumpkin Goby in the Zinkerz. But I havent really looked. Ive not been overly successful with the color but I like the idea of it. Quote

Tom @WRBTom - is the black/purple/brown arranged in any particular way like black on the bottom or top, or just mixed in with each other. 1 Quote
Jason.Domingo Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 Its the only color I throw. Dirty, clear, stained water. PBJ or some variation of brown and purple. 4 Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted December 3, 2020 Global Moderator Posted December 3, 2020 It's probably the #1 color for Ned rig plastics around here. I rarely throw it on a Ned for that reason. It's one of my favorite football jig colors and pretty high up the list for finesse jigs also. 1 Quote
Mbirdsley Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 Yes pb&j is a very legit color. Before I took my PB large mouth on a size #5 Shad rap in March. My personal best came on a pb&j jig. Very good color for the Saginaw river. I’ve gotten away from it though as I have been throwing more Black and blue jig/trailers Quote
