Super User DitchPanda Posted December 2, 2020 Super User Posted December 2, 2020 He won 4 bassmasters classics...3 of them he won catching largemouth. 6 Quote
Super User Boomstick Posted December 2, 2020 Super User Posted December 2, 2020 I'm not exactly sure why you think KVD is all smallmouth. Care to elaborate? 3 Quote
OnthePotomac Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 He lives in my home state, Michigan, which is loaded with small mouth lakes he fishes all the time. Go on U Tube for a variety of his fishing, Lots of largemouth videos. 2 Quote
Super User Spankey Posted December 2, 2020 Super User Posted December 2, 2020 I don’t know him but he seems to be a pretty straight shooter. I’d like to fish with the guy. He seem to be for real. He has been really successful on the MLF tour winning by huge margins. But he has had times where he tanked it up real bad in comparison to others. The guy has done it all. And in his line of work jumping around sponsorship is probably common. When he won out in Pittsburg 3 Rivers I would have loved to been fishing with him on that. Quote
Hawkeye21 Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 Not sure how anyone could dislike KVD or how he fishes. 3 Quote
Super User Sam Posted December 2, 2020 Super User Posted December 2, 2020 KVD is a true bass fishing ambassador. He is a wonderful person who will speak with you if you see him at a show, The Classic, or a Bass University event, and he is glad to have his photo taken with you. If you think KVD hawks his sponsors' products, I suggest you watch Ike on Facebook and see what he markets for his sponsors. And did you know that Ike was the first professional bass fisherman that went out of the industry to get sponsorships? I remember when he got Toyota to sponsor him. Now Ike does promos for all types of products. 2 Quote
Michigander Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 I met him at an expo once and he took the time to talk with me,he seemed pretty cool. I got my Triton at his family's dealership, nice folks. 2 Quote
Super User scaleface Posted December 2, 2020 Super User Posted December 2, 2020 I remember his first couple of years in BASS . He cashed a check almost every event . There was little doubt he was going to be one of the great ones . 1 Quote

zell_pop1 Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 I've met him and his nephew, they are great people that are happy to talk fishing with you or take pics. Ya he knows smallies, but he is good at catching largemouth too, his classic win with a RES made it an extremely popular lure. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted December 3, 2020 Global Moderator Posted December 3, 2020 I think smallmouth suit his high energy style better so maybe he just prefers to fish for them. I met him at the Big Bass Tour on Table Rock and I told him I was "counting rocks", with my football jig in 40' of water. I swear I saw a shiver go up his spine and he laughed and said he could never do that. 1 1 Quote
Super User NorthernBasser Posted December 3, 2020 Super User Posted December 3, 2020 KVD is one of the good guys. Have talked to him a few times. Another is Wheeler. Talked to him once and you could tell right away that he's a genuine guy. JT Kenney is another. 1 Quote
Mbirdsley Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 It’s because, he’s from Michigan. Smallmouth are every where and literally falling out of the trees here. Not saying there are not nice large mouth in the state but, generally speaking. chances are better that you are going to catch a MA smallie before a large mouth. Quote
Super User NorthernBasser Posted December 3, 2020 Super User Posted December 3, 2020 Nobody has asked the question yet but, what's wrong with smallies??! 2 1 Quote

Smallies are the one thing that's kept me from moving south my whole life. I love being able to catch both black bass and brown bass. Smallies are so fun and MEAN. Largemouth on steroids. Quote

TN is one place I've contemplated moving to in recent years because you DO still have smallies. I was talking more south.. 3 Quote
Super User geo g Posted December 3, 2020 Super User Posted December 3, 2020 Could be the greatest ever, most definitely in the top three ever. A class guy. 1 Quote

The past few years I've had my local lake flood several times from the river and a bunch of small mouth have been left behind. Now I haven't caught any giants but have caught several in the 2.5-3lb range...they fight as hard as a 5lb largemouth. Quote

LOL. They're mean too. And they have a small mouth. ======================= Maybe we've been 'largemouth'd' to death and there's not much fertile ground left to pound compared to smallies. Quote
Super User WRB Posted December 4, 2020 Super User Posted December 4, 2020 KVD doesn’t make many trips out west because it’s not a tour event location. I met KVD at the Anaheim Bass A Thon a few years back and he is the real deal and very approachable regular bass angler comfortable talking to everyone. His demonstration and seminar was geared for the audience very very personable, he comes off like your best friend. During lunch KVD sat next to me as I was setting with some local trophy anglers shooting the ***** telling our stories. KVD is good because he is one of us, curious and personable. I asked Kevin if he recalled Dave Nichols his early spinner bait sponsor and his reply was Nichols spinnerbaits stared his carrier. Tom 2 Quote
