Conclusion Posted November 28, 2020 Posted November 28, 2020 I am trying to grab another 1 or 2 tat ct's, not the new blue model but the previous gen red ones and I am having a hard time finding any for a reasonable price (in left hand retrieve). There seem to be tons available to the US folks but by the time I add shipping and customs charges it doesn't make sense cost wise. I paid $129.99 for the current one I have and ideally would like to spend around the same. Does anyone know of a place that has an online presence in Canada that has stock at a reasonable price? Thanks! Quote
LCG Posted November 29, 2020 Posted November 29, 2020 If you don't mind used, I would keep and eye on kijiji. I recently purchased a Shimano SLX MGL from Japan for far less than I can but it here in Ontario. Paid $163 for the reel plus $32 to the tax man. I bought from Asian Portal Fishing. They sell all brands including the Daiwa you want. Think it took 3 days to ship from Japan to Ontario is unbelievably fast shipping. Was nervous at first, but solid company and reel is amazing value. Might be worth a look to order from Japan. Quote

When I search 'tatula ct' on Asianportal it comes up with a slightly different model number but it's still $180. I wish there was a way to avoid duties from tacklewarehouse lol. Quote

I wish we had a Canadian version of tacklewarehouse, we just don't get the selection of our southern neighbours. Bass pro, sail, and a few select smaller shops have decent selections, but nothing like tacklewarehouse. Our low dollar and govt taxes make buying from the states way too expensive. I have found decent deals on Amazon.ca on occasion. 1 Quote

Thanks! There's one listed at Sail though it says, "Not available online." It's at the Lachenaie location. Might be worth a try to phone that store and see if they'll ship it. I feel your guys frustration. I placed an order with TW six weeks ago. I needed some terminal tackle and the cost was $27USD plus $25USD. This time I didn't get charged any taxes, duty or handling charges. Shipping has gone up during Covid. It's ridiculous. I didn't placed an Black Friday order at TW this year. Most of the items and colors I wanted weren't available until later this year or early next year so I'm waiting so I only pay a one time shipping fee. It was a year ago I ordered a SLX XT combo. Well, when it arrived via FedEx there was a bill for $80Cnd. I was outraged. I didn't pay it. I was willing to pay half the cost but they wouldn't agree. I definitely think there is a market here in Canada for a site similar to TW. Actually, I've thought that for the last 5 years. I've been ordering gear from the US the last 40 years. During that time on two occasions our $ was on/close to par but I don't see that happening in the long term... I hope I'm wrong. Quote

Thanks for the replies guys. Yea I saw that at Sail as well and I've tried getting them to ship with no luck. I was strongly considering ordering 2 from TW this weekend with the 20% off sale but with shipping and import fees it'll end up costing more then they are worth. Even Ebay hasn't had anything reasonably priced. I completely agree, we could use a Canadian variant of TW. I'm one of the more fortunate ones with a Cabelas in town and a Sail location within a 1h drive and the selection is still poor. Quote
Finessegenics Posted November 29, 2020 Posted November 29, 2020 We have plenty Canadian tackle stores that offer good products online. Check out Tackle Depot, Bay Tackle Supply, Canadian Tackle Store, and Fishing World. But these sites can never be as expansive and big as TW because even for the stores, it’s expensive to have some of these sought after products shipped over here. And I’m sorry to hear about that @Steelhead. Usually there is a GST that’s applied to shipments coming from the US which are over a certain price. In your case you probably paid that GST as well as the “large item” fee from FedEx. 80$ is definitely way too much but it’s our sad reality. Last winter I made a big order from TW for 230 USD + 25 USD for shipping. When FedEx arrived at my door, I had to pay an additional 45$ CAD in taxes/duties. I knew it was coming but it still sucked. To the OP: As for Sail, I actually live a 25 minute drive away from the Lachenaie location. Last time I went there, there were hardly any reels left at all and most of them were budget friendly reels. Same story at the Laval location...Sail often (and when I say often I really mean it) says that items are in stock at stores but when you get on site they’re nowhere to be seen. So I really doubt that the Tatula is in fact in stock. Quote

Lots of other good reels out there at the price range but to find here in Canada in these times is tough. There's a Cabelas 2 hours north but the freshwater, especially the bass tackle selection is awful. Here on the Westcoast it's all about the salmon/halibut fishing. Quote

I've ordered from a couple of the online shops you mentioned including Latiluppe. No complaints but... The SLX XT combo cost me $149usd but I wasn't expecting $80cdn though I did think at that time that I would be paying something. I want to order a Megabass rod in the New Year but I'm terrified to order from the US. Do you know of any Megabass dealers here in Canada that would be willing to ship? Quote
sideways2 Posted November 29, 2020 Posted November 29, 2020 I hear ya... in my parts... if it ain't Shimano or a Pure Fishing brand it's very difficult to find. Quote

I don't think I've ever seen a Megabass rod in any tackle shop near me or any Canadian site. I've seen guys selling them used on facebook. Next time, I'll just ask one of them where they bought it and get back to you guys. Thinking about it, we should start a new thread for us Canadian guys instead of hijacking OP's post. Would you guys be interested if I started a "Canadian Latest Sale Thread" where we can post questions about where to find certain brands or sales going on and what not? You guys can follow it so it sends you a notification when someone posts on the thread or you can opt to receive weekly email with all new posts. Would be cool for us. 1 Quote

No sweat in hijacking my thread, I'd definitely follow a thread on Canadian deals. Kind of all related, would be great to hear about some deals people might find. Quote

This is a great idea, I would definitely follow it. I have spent far too many hours searching the corners of the internet looking for stuff that we can't get or is way too expensive from the U. S. DomQ Posted November 30, 2020 Posted November 30, 2020 Fun fact, tackle warehouse has a warehouse here in Ontario!! And they still charge you 80 bucks shipping. 1 1 Quote

DomQ Posted November 30, 2020 Posted November 30, 2020 One of my buddies is about to post his brand new fuego for sale, he's in pickering if your interested. Reel is in mint condition and fully spooled. Quote

Maybe if you count the taxes and duties then yeah...but I always thought the flat rate was $25 until a certain weight limit was passed. 1 Quote

Great idea! I'm all for it. Late winter last year I picked up some good deals at Sail and Latiluppe. Peterborough Pro Tackle has 20% off Cyber Monday Sale. Not sure if it includes Megabass. Unfortunately the sites doesn't show any rods. I know Fishing World is a Megabass dealer. I'll go back to the Megabass USA site and find some dealers here in Canada and contact them and ask them what they can do. Quote

I paid $22 for my BG2500 and $18 for some Ande. I was also quoted $21 for some lures. I refuse to shop anywhere that does not give the US Postal Service as an option. Couriers to Canada literally r$pe you with brokerage fees. I don't mind paying the duties and taxes but I've seen a $45.00 brokerage fee before on an item that wasn't even that in price (UPS I'm talking to you!!) 1 Quote
