Never heard of them, I'd get the receipt and return it if possible.  Buy a Shimano, Daiwa or Lews.

:welcome: to the forum.  Lots of excellent information here.  You my be interested in reading some of the tackle reviews, fishing articles and watching a few videos.  Just click on the menu icon on the upper left.

I have only recently learned of the Enigma name.  Tried looking for some reviews.  I did learn the rods and reels have a no question asked lifetime warranty.  Of course that won't matter much if you don't like the gear.  Not sure where the review I read came from.  I no longer pay attention to Amazon reviews.  Worthless at best for the most part.

I am going to assume you have a spinning reel.  There are a several good options at most any price point.  I have no idea if Enigma is one of them.  :Idontknow:

Low cost: Trion or Revros LT are a couple good options.

Little higher:  The Daiwa BG is a great reel.  Not the lightest, tho.  Shimano NASCI.

Pflueger President is highly regarded.  I've read the new models aren't as good as the older models.  No idea.  Mine is an older model.  Just keeps on tickin.  :smile1:

I have a very old Penn 430SS (very small reel) that was my first 'good' reel.  Still have and like it.

Anyone have experience with the enigma brand?... I recently received it as a gift, and it keeps looping.

Excuse me, but what do you mean by "looping" ?     jj

That is why I guessed it is a spinning reel.  :smile1:  Line sure can 'loop'...jump....off the spool if spooled on wrong or has a lot of line twist.  Or too much line spooled on.

I understand, but I just don't like to guess or assume. The more info, the sooner we can give the OP help and the more accurate the answer will be. I could understand "looping" applied to both spinning and casting gear as described by a tyro.       jj

I have the flipping version of the Enigma Ippon bait caster. The reel feels ultra cheap and the fancy bearings make it loud. Initially I hated it but I can't deny that it does the deed without fail. Stays on my deck, but wouldn't buy a second.

A rep tried to sell me on the spinning version at an expo. I passed after handling it.

Is it just springing off the spool or is it just twisting? What type and size line are you using?
