Since you want to work these a bit faster is there a certain brand that works better during this time of year?

Or Is the standards still just as effective? Megabass suspends I just didn't know since you are working it at a higher speed if that is what action you want

Husky jerk is what I throw, just pop it along a little quicker in summer. A floating bait can also be good for summer if fish are in the top 5 feet of the water column

If you watch KVD fish a jerkbait in summertime, he uses the same jerkbaits he uses in winter or colder water, he just fishes them a lot faster without as much of a pause.

I go big or small for warm water jerkbaits. My favorite is the Duo Realis Rozante 77sp. After that, I like the Lucky Craft Slender Pointer 127MR. Fish them fast with very little pause. I've caught so many fish on the Duo in water into the 80's, and big ones too. One in particular stands out. Water was in the low 70's, so not really warm yet, but way above what most consider jerkbait temps.

How does that bait's action differ from a Pointer 78?

It's louder and more aggressive. It cast light years better thanks to the tungsten weight transfer casting system in it also. It moves so easily in the water that it can be finessed along very gently when the water is cold though too.

NICE Smallmouth ~ Don't know how I missed this one - Congrats on the bass & surviving that 'net catastrophe !"

I actually did quite nicely with my white/ghost colored Rerange this late Summer / early Fall. I was only using 1-2 second pauses.

Ive also seen the Rapala Shadow Rap Shad described as a warm water jerkbait. I think Seth Fieder described it as, use the Shad in the summer, use the normal Shadow rap in the winter.

There you go, that’s my two cents.

I use the Strike King KVD ones in the summer, they seem to work better than my Visions in warm water when I'm fishing faster.

I have both and have caught more fish with an x-rap. I've only caught 2 fish with the Shad, and they were both times I must have hit the fish right on the head because when it landed in the water, the fish nailed it. Total reaction thing, had nothing to do with the action of the bait. When I've had to work the bait, I've got no fish. Can't say I've used it a ton though. The x-rap darts like crazy, I think it provides a lot of fish-catching ability for the price. It runs a little deeper than the Shad, due to the Shad being a riser. I think my plan for my Shad is to use it when I river fish for Smallies. I think the rise action will keep it from getting caught in the rocks. If you dig around and you'll find deals on Rapalas right now, with Black Friday this week.
