Shimano_1 Posted November 23, 2020 Posted November 23, 2020 I currently have a 93sv and 73sv chirp. Love the mapping and 2d but side and down imaging leave a lot to be desired. Looking at the garmin 93sv uhd with the gt54uhd transducer. Im not well versed in the technology so forgive my ignorance. Will the newer uhd version offer better imaging or will I need one of the black boxes or whatever so the screen can show the better imaging? I can get the garmin or a lowrance elite 9ti2 for the same money. I trust the garmin more overall but from what I've found after a day of researching i feel like the lowrance has better imaging. Not interested in any other aspect besides adding a graph to my console that offers good side and down imaging within dropping 1500 bucks. Any and all help greatly appreciated! Thanks Quote
Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted November 23, 2020 Global Moderator Posted November 23, 2020 UHD stands for Ultra High Definition. The frequency is quite a bit higher than the standard Echomap transducer So the images will naturally be better. I haven’t personally used a UHD transducer but I hear it’s quite a bit better, but nothing like MEGA imaging the Humminbird has, but is quite a bit better the Lowrance. Everything that you get with this $599 package you can’t beat hands down, it doesn’t matter if the images are better than MEGA imaging or not. Quote
Dens228 Posted November 23, 2020 Posted November 23, 2020 I've been using a 73SV UHD all summer and just made a minor upgrade to the 93SV UHD. Both were with the GT54. I switched from Lowrance and can tell you that it was a great improvement. I upgraded to the 9" screen because the current price made it difficult not to and I like having three views on my screen. The 2" increase was a huge improvement. 1 Quote

So ur just running both garmins with just the gt54 ducer? No black box or anything? Any chance you could post some images or I can pm you my number and send me some? I have made the mistake of wasting money on electronics before and would like to get the best I can for the money. What lowrance did you go from to the garmins? Thanks a bunch guys The down and side imaging on the lowrance looks about as close to mega as ive seen Quote

I don't have any photos of images but if I go out this week, which I'm sure I will, I'll try to remember to take a few. Quote
Shimano_1 Posted November 23, 2020 Author Posted November 23, 2020 Sounds good man thanks. Id guess the hook 2 isn't on par with the elite ti2. My aluminum triton came with a hook 2. Like I said I prefer everything about garmin but from my research just appears maybe for this purpose the lowrance is better. Just figured maybe some of u guys running the garmins or lowrance would chime in. Is it easy to identify fish and structures with the uhd right outta the box? Quote
Michigander Posted November 23, 2020 Posted November 23, 2020 So just saw Raymarine Element, uh Garmin, we've had a lot of good years together but I think you're dead to me. Quote
Shimano_1 Posted November 23, 2020 Author Posted November 23, 2020 Just watched Russell marine products do a side by side with the 93 uhd and the helix mega +. Obviously the bird was better but the garmin appeared much nicer than I was expecting. Definitely a hug upgrade from my 93sv chirp Quote

Super User Boomstick Posted November 27, 2020 Super User Posted November 27, 2020 The EchoMap UHD 93sv was my first fish finder, but I've never felt the imaging wasn't clear enough. They have definitely made strides since the original 93SV, and the UHD 93sv is a step up from the plus. You should be able to go watch some Youtube videos or search from some imaging from a UHD 93sv and see if it suits your liking - that's what I did before I bought mine. And they upgraded the GT54 transducer (which I have) for next season - no idea what the GT56 changes, but it might be even better! Quote

jbmaine Posted November 28, 2020 Posted November 28, 2020 Just ordered a 9". With bass pro rewards I'm in at under $500. Can't beat it. 4 Quote
Shimano_1 Posted November 28, 2020 Author Posted November 28, 2020 Ordered one from cabelas myself for a touch under 600. We shall see but I'm confident I made the right choice! A lot of graph for the money 1 Quote

Very easy to use and once you get the settings right, you rarely have to touch it which is one of Garmin's perks. Quote
