cjam93 Posted November 23, 2020 Posted November 23, 2020 Getting a new reel for 6xd style/depth baits. I am going to grab it in a 7 gear ratio. I am between these two reels. Which would you say I should go for and why? Thanks! Quote
Jmoney402 Posted November 23, 2020 Posted November 23, 2020 I switched to all daiwa reels last year, but did own both of these reels previously. The BB1 casts significantly better IMO for that reason alone I personally would go with it. The SD wide has way more line capacity than you will need I imagine, and the aluminum side plate isn't as much of an advantage as it would be on other techniques. I would go with a lower gear ratio for the torque, but if 6xd's is the heaviest you go it may not be necessary. What rod are you putting it on? Quote
cjam93 Posted November 23, 2020 Author Posted November 23, 2020 Ok thanks! I usually crank on a 5 or 6, but I want to speed it up and try that out. I am going to have an extended handle as well to compensate for torque. I am putting it on a powell endurance 755 CB Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted November 23, 2020 Super User Posted November 23, 2020 i would go with a lews tournament pro.it would be fine for that and casts a mile Quote

Shimano_1 Posted November 24, 2020 Posted November 24, 2020 I love the tournament pros but I crank with a bb1 myself. Just feels better for me under that kinda load and the line capacity is a little more. Of the ones mentioned id go bb1 pro but I'm not sure I dont like the bb1 better and it can be had for like 120 from sportsman's outfitters. Probably gonna add another for an a rig/swimbait rod Quote
Fastbee Posted November 24, 2020 Posted November 24, 2020 I've used the BB1 Pro for what you describe and I liked it just fine. I've never used a Super Duty Wide Spool but do have a Super Duty 300. I don't think I would like it for cranking, I didn't care for it while throwing an A-rig the other day...not really the same application or even same reel so take it for what it's worth. I would question your rod of choice for 6XDs...I'd use my 755 in a pinch but wouldn't like it as a 6XD rod very often. The biggest crank I use on it regularly is a DT-16 or DD-22. Have you used the 755 for 6XDs alot? Quote
Born 2 fish Posted November 25, 2020 Posted November 25, 2020 I crank with a regular bb1 out of the two you mentioned I would recommend the wide spool for one reason. That being the line capacity when you make long casts the ipt won’t change as much with the wide spool. But you can’t go wrong with either. I have a few wide spools and pro’s Quote

Smaller and more compact. 6 pin 27 position externally adjustable centrifugal brakes.l would also get the 6.8 to 1.i think it looks nicer. They are all good reels it's just my preference. Quote
