Smokinal Posted November 22, 2020 Posted November 22, 2020 I was out today; air was 27 degrees, water was 37...throwing blades Needless to say everything was icing up. Well about an hour into the day, the levelwind on my Revo S stopped moving. I could see it was full of ice so I picked it out with a fizzing needle so it was all clear but it still would not move on its own. I can slide it back and forth with my finger but it will not move with the handle; spool spins though and I can see the "worm rod" spinning too. I'm assuming the mate to the worm rod is stripped. Is this a hard replacement for a rookie reel fixer upper (me) For your time: The entry stream we had to run through as an ice breaker this morning Me with one of the smallies My buddy with a nice pike 1 Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted November 22, 2020 Super User Posted November 22, 2020 Replacing a worm gear is very easy. Remove the pawl cap to make sure the pawl itself isn't damaged. 1 Quote

After some homework, I've come to the conclusion that: A. There was so much wrong with my OP...description, terminology...?? B. I believe the pawl is broken. I tried to remove the cap but it will not pass the reel body across the front of it. I'm not sure I can safely and accurately disassemble the reel deep enough to remove it. Actually, let me restate that; I can disassemble it, not so sure about the reassembly part ? Quote

Yeah I tried my best to decipher your post...lol. The pawl cap can be removed /w a flat head screwdriver. The wider the head the better because pawl caps are generally soft when they are made of plastic and a smaller length flat head can strip the head. Reel the levelwind so the cap is on the non handle side plate at the edge. Engage the clutch (click the thumb bar) and the pawl cap will face you on the backside. Unscrew the cap, over a table, and you can shake the reel a little so the pawl comes out over a table. Inspect the pawl. 1 Quote
Smokinal Posted November 23, 2020 Author Posted November 23, 2020 Thank you but this one is locked in with another bar and does not flip. I think it's headed to @Delaware Valley Tackle for repair and cleaning. Quote

Delaware Valley Tackle Posted November 23, 2020 Posted November 23, 2020 Some models the nose piece does block removal of the pawl cap which I never understood. Anyway, you can hold until January or send it immediately, just keep in mind that turnaround between now and Jan1 will be slower than usual. 1 Quote

I'll send this one and a few others for cleaning once we freeze over here Quote

Its like that on the Shimano "I" series and I honestly haven't quite figured out removal on those. It almost seems like it snaps into place but im scared to try and find out. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted November 24, 2020 Posted November 24, 2020 There’s a screw on one side. You have to take the crank side apart and remove the side plate to get the nose piece off. 9 hours ago, garroyo130 said: Its like that on the Shimano "I" series and I honestly haven't quite figured out removal on those.
