The jerkbait pic is the chara algae @scaleface ? What has the RES Dragged in

I cant tell if thats chara or not . The other grass I dont know either . Looks like it would be  tough to throw anything with a treble hook in either .

Looks more like pondweed and/or naiad to me. Chara is tough and smells very strong (musk-like). Usually is brighter green this time of year, also.

If chara is tough then this isn’t it, this stuff is super tender and requires lil effort to rip away from hooks. It did have a slight musk smell though.

It’s nickname is ‘muskgrass’ or ‘skunk weed.’ Usually pretty “crunchy” for lack of a better term because of calcium deposits.

From Wikipedia: “Chara plants are rough to the touch because of deposited calcium salts on the cell wall. The metabolic processes associated with this deposition often give Chara plants a distinctive and unpleasant smell of hydrogen sulfide.”

@A-Jay  I’m about to make a run to get hooks. Are you still using triple grips size 2 front and back on 1/2oz RES? I think the SK rings will suffice for me, do you change those out on yours? What’s your thoughts on the front red hook for RES? Thanks

The "1/4oz" RES actually weighs between 3/8 and a 1/2oz. The "1/2" actually weighs closer to 5/8. Same is true for the Rat-L-Trap, the "1/4" weighs 3/8, and the "1/2" weighs 5/8.

I prefer #2 EWG on the front & a #4 EWG on the back of 1/2 oz RES.

Unless the bass are seriously plus size then I'll go #2 on the back also.

I do the same on a 1.5 squarebill.

As for the Red Hook thing.

I do it ALL The Time !

Don't think it's magic but

I've caught more than a few decent ones doing it.

My local shop is slacking on hooks. I bought a 6 pack of Gamakatsu magic eye ewg #2’s. I’ll have wait to find some #4’s. I bought a 2 tap in natural Shad and bought my first 1/4oz to try. Interesting to note that my 2 tap is made in China and my regular RES are Costa Rica.

I thank all you guys that so freely share your years of experience! Me and a lot of others are taking notes and really appreciate it!!

So what color RES would you suggest in murky water?

I have 2-3 in my box and I've used the YO YO retrieve and slow roll and have yet to catch a fish.

And, if I let it actually sink to the muddy bottom, then I hang on the wood on the bottom. Frustrating.
