Fishnski48 Posted November 20, 2020 Posted November 20, 2020 I just saw a video on the Ugly Stick carbon rod. It is nothing like the US rods I've seen in the past. Has any one used one? I fish what feels good to me. I have Fenwicks, BPS and Exprides. This one really got my curiosity for an $80 rod (6'8") Quote
throttleplate Posted November 20, 2020 Posted November 20, 2020 i bought the 6-6 ugly stick carbon this summer, medium-fast and i use it for frogs, jerk, cranks, topwater, heck i use it for everything i dont need a long cast for. For me its very light and so makes it easy to use the lures mentioned especially when wading in water up to my chest where the rod is held hi to keep from submerging the reel. Next spring i will buy the 7 ft carbon for longer casts and eliminate the need to wade up to my chest. Quote
throttleplate Posted November 21, 2020 Posted November 21, 2020 one more thing to the OP, my response will probably be the last to appear on this thread as it appears not many on here care for the uglystick carbon or are ashamed to admit they own one.? Quote

I think Ugly Stick is the most popular brand in America, maybe the world. Perhaps the key to their success in a reputation for being virtually indestructible. Bass fisherman generally put more emphasis on other attributes. 1 Quote
Fishnski48 Posted November 21, 2020 Author Posted November 21, 2020 Yes Ugly stick has a great reputation for durability and I agree it is not one that will get talked about by a lot of folks on this forum. I just thought some people would have tried the new all graphite one. It is about the same price as the Shimano Clarus, St Croix Triumph, Abu Vengeance. It is probably the stigma of being perceived as not a serious fisherperson. I agree with Roadwarrior... I would venture to guess it is in more closets and garages than folks will admit too. Thanks for the feedback..? 1 Quote
Super User Maxximus Redneckus Posted November 22, 2020 Super User Posted November 22, 2020 Not skeered to admit i own many they have a purpose not the best for all.things but what rod is ...with moving baits ..they are perfect though i havent tried the carbon one maybe if they make one with a pistol grip or short handle ..i will try it .fish never did ask what rod was used to catch them..in my 45 yrs of fishing. BTW i use abu round reels exclusively 4500s and 4600 s and they balance out perfect with 9 oz reels Quote
Super User Darth-Baiter Posted November 22, 2020 Super User Posted November 22, 2020 The 7’ med heavy is sold out at TW, so they must sell more than a few. 1 1 Quote
