What’s your opinions on the Diawa Tatula CT? I’ve heard many good things about it, but i just realized that they made a new one and that’s why there’s two that’s named the same thing, I like the look of the old one more except the handle knobs and cap, but is there anything different about the two/ one better than the other? Or any other reels in the 130 price range that’s good? (planning on buying one with a dobyns fury)

One thing you should know - the Tatula CT is just a Fuego CT with the T-Wing system and bearings in the handle knobs. Otherwise they're the same reel.

Just to let you know American Legacy Fishing is having a 25% discount on Dobyns rods right now. Discount code: DOBYNS25

What lures are you going to use on the Dobyns Fury?

Yes that’s why i’m getting one, i mostly throw t rigs and occasionally jerks/square bills/lipless/chatterbaits/spinner baits and a little of everything else since, but i was thinking MH/F 7’0 or 7’3 i’m not totally sure on which yet or if i wanna step down to a M/(M)F rod

Did not know that, so pretty much like the SLX vs SLX XT in a way, so is the Tatula CT worth it? I mean it definitely looks nicer, but does the t wing make a negligible difference?

MH/F is the 'Swiss Army Knife' in rods - can't do everything, but can do many things. T-Rigs, jigs, chatters, and spinners are what I toss on my MH/F. That's what I'd get for a multi-purpose rod.

I haven't experienced the T-Wing - I've been more than satisfied with my two Fuegos.

I've got old and newer CT's in all different sizes and a Fuego. I have no complaints about any of them. Great value reels imho.

i totally forgot about maintaining it, i would clean it myself too, but how hard is it? I can’t find a video specifically for breaking down a TWS and putting it back, but i don’t see them doing anything special for it

I don't really care if it has the T-Wing or not as long as the reel performs properly. I service all my own reels so I don't care what they have. There are many You Tube videos how to service the Tatula CT reels and probably many others.

It will be hard to find one rod that is gonna do all those baits. Probably a Dobyns Fury 734 would be the most versatile rod trying to cover that many different lures. Although for crankbaits/jerkbaits/lipless you would be better suited for a Dobyns Fury 705CB.  I've never use any of the SLX reels or rods so I have no experience with them.

is there anything difficult about cleaning the TWS system, like the person above said? I’m not specifically getting the tatula CT because it has a TWS system, but i rather not get it if it’s too hard to clean

I don't think it is difficult to service but that is my personal experience/opinion. I've had the Tatula CT dismantled to the frame, but a person doesn't have to do a complete teardown to do a good cleaning/servicing on them.

@Hammer 4 in your opinion does the T wing system actually make a difference?

I haven't compared the T wing with the Fuego with the same line/lures. I can say that the T wing seems to help with casting distance with heavier line, like mono in the 17 lb and up test range. I don't see the t wing as being a problem.

I have both Fuego CT and a Tatula CTs,  the Twing will pitch lures easier/further IMO,  for regular casting I think there is very little difference.

@zell_pop1 would you say the tatula is worth the extra money? I’m guessing by above your saying the tatula and fuego cast the same or did i comprehend it wrong

Although Tatula and Fuego might feel the same, but I think the craftmanship is different. The line guide insert ring fell off from one of my Fuegos, I had to superglue it back.  Similar things never happens to my Tatulas, old or new models.

This summer I purchased a tatula ct (red version) and a tatula 150. Up until these purchases I had never used a baitcaster in my life.  I don't have anything to compare with but I absolutely loved both of them. For a beginner they were ridiculously easy to learn and use. I let a friend who typically uses quantum reels try it and his comment was 'you better take this back now or you won't get to use it anymore'. The CT probably got more use as I had it paired with a MH rod while the 150 was on a heavy rod. Although the 150 felt a bit more solid I assume that it's due to the unit being all aluminum as opposed to the CT being aluminum frame and graphite side plates. I would definitely recommend a CT to anyone looking for something within the price range. I was actually planning on buying another one but up in Canada the new blue CT for this year is now $20 more expensive than the prior year red one which puts it too close in price to the tatula 150 so I opted for a second one of those. I believe it's mentioned on the new daiwa thread that was started based on their summer product launches that the new ct is identical to the old ct, handles and frame colour/finish aside.

I have lots of places i could pitch to, but i need to learn lol i’ve backlashed so hard the last few times i’ve given up for a while

so the t wing system to take apart and clean the worm gear isn’t any different from a regular guide? i wonder why the person above said it’s a nightmare, i mean i’m not good enough to do a total tear down but i know how to clean the main gears and that’s good enough for a clean for now

Most of the time I won't do a complete teardown on my reels I'll just clean the old grease out of the worm gear with mild solvent with a little compressed air and will apply a light coat of Cal's Universal Grease to the worm guide & gears. I'll take out the bearings and clean them out with solvent and apply new oil. Check out Tackle Advisors you tube channel he has a good teardown & service on a Diawa Steez which has the T-Wing system like a Tatula CT.

There's no much trouble to dissemble a T-wing and clean it; the difficult part I think is after all the cleaning, you must align that plastic pinion engage/disengage kit(I am not sure about those little parts' names) perfectly, and securely, with the hole on the frame, so that the spool shaft can rotate freely and the casting won't be affected.  That goes for both Fuegos and Tatulas.

@newapti5Doesn’t that go for every reel? Or is it different for those two because of assembly lol

The design of Tatula and Fuego makes the task harder. There are 2 tiny screws that needed to be tightened to secure the whole kit in position, but not tightened too hard, otherwise the alignment will be askew.
