masterbaiter9117 Posted November 17, 2020 Posted November 17, 2020 what rod for this and 50lb braid? i want to do some frogging as well maybe some jigging but i want the rod to be closer to 7' ish although the 7'5 zodias is in my sights due to the longer handle and tactical bassin keeps pushing it so heavily Quote
Navrik Posted November 17, 2020 Posted November 17, 2020 Have a look at the ALX Rods Zolo 7'2" Toadface. I think that would be a great fit. Quote
Str8BraidPowa Posted November 17, 2020 Posted November 17, 2020 I have a 7'4" Bass X that works great for both of those applications. (my buddy has the Mojo Bass, he is equally happy). I have also picked up a Dobyn's Sierra 703c that I am super excited to get on the water with next weekend, they also have 704 that would be good for what you a looking to do. Quote
DomQ Posted November 18, 2020 Posted November 18, 2020 The new zodias rod awesome. I’ve got 2 with plans of getting more next year. #lovemesomezodiasrods Quote
OnthePotomac Posted November 18, 2020 Posted November 18, 2020 I stumbled into a great frog rod years ago on sale for $80 at BPS. It is a KVD 7, MH worm rod ,4.9oz, 1/4-1 1/2oz, 12-25lb line. Who would have thought this would work, but it turned out to be really comfortable with which to throw a frog all day if necessary. Outside the box as they say. I did not buy it for a frog rod. Quote
scbassin Posted November 18, 2020 Posted November 18, 2020 I do a lot of frog fishing in fact it's my favorite way to fish. I have 2 of these rods & they are excellent for frogging. They are the Dobyns Rods Champion XP DC 736C FH $259.99. Rated 5.00 out of 5 based on 11 customer ratings (11 customer reviews). Length 7'3". Handle Cork, Full Line Weight 15-30 lb Lure Weight 3/8-2 oz, Action Heavy Ex Fast, Applications Frogs, Pitchin' & Flippin' T/W will have a 20% off sale on black Friday (207.99) Quote
masterbaiter9117 Posted November 19, 2020 Author Posted November 19, 2020 so im assuming/hoping most frog rods will work to throw beast hooks with paddletails, flukes, and maybe spinnerbaits and jigs.. i want enough flex in the rod to get a good lob on a fluke weighing .6oz but i want the backbone and length to pull bass over pads and out of weeds but i dont want to go over 7 feet too much. Eric 26 Posted November 19, 2020 Posted November 19, 2020 Check out tackle junky 81 on you tube and on here Glen’s review of Okuma tcs a casting rod. Supposed to be soft tip with plenty of backbone. Looking at 7’-3” heavy myself from TW Black Friday sale. Quote
scbassin Posted November 19, 2020 Posted November 19, 2020 (edited) The Dobyns rods I am using are a Heavy Ex-fast action with a full cork handle. These rods will get the job done. I have Shimano Speedmaster reels with 50lb Sunline FX2 spooled on them. If I get a good hook set they are coming to get put on the scale & put back, no matter how thick the cover. See my post above.
