RE: TO THE OVERRATTED LURE THREAD

Hey Fellas: That thread points out a couple of things. For me the most eyeopening that a lure can be great; but if we aren't catching on it , we have a tendency to blame the lure.

 Look at all the soft plastic knocks; yet for me ( Thanks to LBH and RW) they have become an important part of my limited arsenal.

 Now i have spent months trying to master the jig, with no results yet. I can't blame the jig, it is gonna take more time. Almost every fisherman I respect , throws em with great sucess.

That is so true, I have a friend that I fish with and every time we go out I hear him blame the lure for his lack os success or the line is junk or the rod is to soft .So I ask him to use the set up and catch fish with it.Ive told him if he put as much time into learning his equipment as he dose complaining about it then he too would catch fish.

I ain't gave up on a senkos...but it sure ain't my confidence bait.

Just because it doesn't work for me,i know they ain't bad lures.I seen and heard them work for others on here.

Muddy if i was close around i'd show you how to work a jig and you could teach me what or why i can't catch much on a senko.

I really don't think there's such thing as a bad lure or overrated for everybody...because somebody out there has it and loves it and can catch fish with it.

I seen guys swear by the hydro lure or the banjo minnow.

One of the most underrated lures by most bass fisherman in the plain old in-line spinner, those have been catching fish for ages and still do.

Another thought is that different baits will work better at different times of year and will vary depending on the body of water being fished and the natural forage available. For example a rainbow trout swimbait works well in California but I don't think I'd have much luck with it in TN or KY. Even if you have a tecnique mastered it probably won't work if you don't use it at the right time and place....all part of the fishing experience....JMHO

im with raul ill tie on an inline spinner any day. that lure has produced more bass for me this year than all the lures in my tackle box put together including senkos ;D

Yes you are right.

Last fall I was absolutely killing bass on an inline spinner, almost every cast.

And the good thing is, if the bass wont hit it, the crappie and bluegill will

If you don't have confidence in any lure, reel, rod, etc...  then you may as well throw it away because a positive attitude in any aspect of your life breeds success. I don't believe there is a "magic" catch-all lure on the planet. Some may catch more fish for you at certain times but all of them have their place and time.

Trying a new lure for a few minutes or even hours then giving up on it is the sign of a loser that will never reach above average status in fishing. If the lure is catching fish for people other than you then you need to figure out what "you" are doing wrong. Practice, patience, and confidence makes winners (period).

My father told me something when I was young that I have never forgot .. "You have to be smarter than what you are fu..ing with!"

Well, up until a few months ago I never would throw a stickbait. Then after a Rapala floater got me 9 different species of fish [over 100 fish so far] it is one of my go to's. Same goes with crankin. All of my most recent fish have been on a Bomber craw colored crank when worms and jigs weren't doing the trick! This time last year I would have laughed at you if you told me to crank.

I didn't post on the other thread because I think all Classes of lures work at the right time, but I'm NOT saying all lures will work ever! I might not completely agree with badhabit, I think there are a couple of "Magic Lures"   :. Overall however, I certainly agree that in order to work ANY lure successfully, it has to be fished the right way and at the right time. Most importantly, a lure has to be fished extensively to have any real feel for its potential.
