Super User ww2farmer Posted November 20, 2020 Super User Posted November 20, 2020 My mom, grandmother, grandfather, uncle, and sister are buried in the cemetery that over look my home lake. Hokey and sappy, but I like to think they are watching me, and I hate to let them down. So I fish hard every time out, and don't take failure lightly. 1 Quote

They dug up as many as they could before the dams were completed but several were flooded Quote

Super User WRB Posted November 24, 2020 Super User Posted November 24, 2020 I have Luck and superstition go hand and hand. Very competitive people develop “lucky charms” of some sort or another and are superstitious if they are being honest. It starts somewhere along the line of competition, what did I do different to win? We want to repeat success. Was it my hat or how I approached the day?? We look for a comfort item some call a lucky charm. When I started competing racing and gymnastics were my sports. My race car or boat became a living things that needed to be talked to and approached the same way I did on a good race. My superstition was strong a very specific routine was followed. Touch the right rear and pat the car or boat then walk around counter clockwise looking over things before approaching the cockpit and always getting in on the left side. I would ask if we were gong to have a good day and say “let’s go racing” as if something mechanical was listening. Did I mention I only had 1 bell helmet 8 years, my lucky hat. I was just as superstitious competing in gymnastics approaching each event by testing the high bar cables, the Long horse (vault) take off board, rings for grip and height and walk in circle talking to myself going though my routine visually to get ready....routines to make sure my uniform was perfect, palm grips on straight etc, etc. Superstitious or idiosyncrasies, I had to have my favorite hand grips they were lucky. Today I can go fishing with nearly anything, except I do need my favorite hat. Tom Quote
cheezyridr Posted November 25, 2020 Posted November 25, 2020 i'm not into superstition. but luck? i don't think it can be denied. some people have it, some people don't. i have a buddy who has won raffles, draws, cool door prizes, lottery money, etc. i rarely do. otoh, there have been times i was speeding down the hiway, lifted my foot for unknown reasons, and breezed through a sped trap at a far more legal speed than just a few seconds previous. a few times, completely random encounters have filled a need in a completely random fashion. but not all luck is good. i have terrible luck with women. the surest way to find out if a woman is dangerously insane, is if she likes me. the more she does, the greater the probability that she likes to eat live puppies or she secretly rides a broom on moonless nights in a pointy black hat.
