BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted November 16, 2020 BassResource.com Administrator Posted November 16, 2020 Hey guys! Some of you want to take your significant other, daughter, sister, etc out fishing, but you're not if she'll like it. Here's a few tips to help you out. Quote
Super User king fisher Posted November 16, 2020 Super User Posted November 16, 2020 Make sure you buy her the rod and reel you have been wanting to buy, because there is a chance you will be the one using it. If you buy her a beginner set up it may just spend time in the closet. 10 Quote

Super User Bird Posted November 16, 2020 Super User Posted November 16, 2020 Nice video. I did get my wife into fishing years ago but she developed a trait that didn't sit well with me. She wanted to eat every single fish she and I caught so I introduced her to the kitchen. She loves being on the water and I enjoy her company so nowadays I simply pull her kayak behind my boat while she reads......when she's not in the kitchen. 1 Quote
throttleplate Posted November 16, 2020 Posted November 16, 2020 my wife outfishes me for bass, she is patient and sticks to what works for herself and stays within a boundary while i am out running around in waders walking through thick lilly pands and crawling over downed trees throwing 7 different lures experimenting. 2 Quote
Super User geo g Posted November 16, 2020 Super User Posted November 16, 2020 I tried a long, long time ago. She was into late starts, early finishes, bathroom stops, snacks, and when she deep hooked a bass, tears started flowing when I finally unhooked it. That was her last trip and we were both happy with that!!!!!!! She is a supporter, and is always interested in my trips and catches. But she is much happier doing her own thing, while I do mine! We have negotiated a peaceful transition for 45 years! Lol 3 Quote
Captain Phil Posted November 16, 2020 Posted November 16, 2020 Instead of getting your wife to like fishing, why not marry a girl who already likes fishing? My wife and I have been fishing together since high school. Last Monday was our 55th wedding anniversary. We started fishing together before and after school. We started fishing from the bank. After a few years we bought a Jon boat. Eventually, we moved up to bass boats, flats boats, even an offshore sport fish. We fished tournaments together as well. We took our son with us when he was old enough to hold a rod. Now he fishes out of his own boat. There is an old saying, "Work at something you enjoy and you will never work a day in your life". The same thing goes for spouses. 7 Quote

CountryboyinDC Posted November 16, 2020 Posted November 16, 2020 Tell her it's the one thing you enjoy doing alone. 1 Quote
ironbjorn Posted November 16, 2020 Posted November 16, 2020 All that taught me was that they'll turn a fishing trip into a swimming trip, thus not really getting them into fishing and turning into a bad time for you. They've got to actually want to pick up the rod for real, otherwise instead of wasting your valuable fishing time, do something different with them. 1 Quote

Super User Choporoz Posted November 16, 2020 Super User Posted November 16, 2020 Put her on fish. I know that's easier said than done, but the first couple hours...or trips...or maybe months...should be about teaching her without sounding like you're teaching....and always put her in best casting position to catch fish. If she takes a break and goes to her phone or book, than accept it and relish that first cast to the lay downs. Ten years ago, I got lucky and put my wife on a nice 3 or 4 pounder in first two hours of her first trip. That was all it took. Quote
MGF Posted November 16, 2020 Posted November 16, 2020 I married a girl who already like fishing and the outdoors. The only potential down side is that you buy a lot more tackle. 2 2 Quote

She won't fish enough to learn how to use a spinning reel or a baitcaster. 7 hours ago, Bird said: Nice video. Super User gim Posted November 17, 2020 Super User Posted November 17, 2020 I have taken my significant other fishing about 4-5 times/season. I never force it and she only goes when the weather is nice out. I’ve tried to explain that nice weather usually results in less fish caught and more people on the water, but she prefers sun and warmth over catching fish. She doesn’t have a lot of patience either so I will often do some pan fishing instead if it’s the right time of year. Quote

Just a few back lashes, and it is yours. Make sure you buy her something non fishing related too. A friend of mine still has a shotgun that has never been used at his house. He made the mistake of thinking she only wanted a shotgun for Christmas. Every time he has tried to use it she tells him it is hers, and he is welcome to borrow her jewelry but not her gun. 1 1 Quote

She has been with me on those rare occasions (lol) when I did get a backlash. That is one reason she won't try one. Quote
TcRoc Posted November 17, 2020 Posted November 17, 2020 My wife’s favorite part of fishing is when I leave to go fishing and I’m fine with that ? 4 Quote
Hewhospeaksmuchbull Posted November 17, 2020 Posted November 17, 2020 It was the spinnerbait that got my girl, upon seeing its she exclaimed "oh I like that one, how many colors does it come in?" Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted November 17, 2020 Global Moderator Posted November 17, 2020 Don't buy her a cheap rod and reel (unless she'll on use spincasting, then you're kind of stuck). Buy something that works well because if it's constantly tangling and messing up, it's not fun for either of you. Take her somewhere she'll catch fish, they don't need to be big, just hungry. It's honestly kind of like taking a kid fishing. Bring drinks, snacks, take breaks, and don't overstay your welcome. My wife was not a fisherwoman when we met. She had a hand-me-down 20 year old Zebco 33 that I couldn't even tie a knot in the line without the line breaking the first time we tried to go fishing. Now she loves going and chasing smallmouth with her St. Croix Avid Pearl/Quantum Energy PT spinning combo and holds her own pretty well. 5 Quote
Super User NYWayfarer Posted November 17, 2020 Super User Posted November 17, 2020 Nice clickbait ? you are learning the ways of YouTube my Padawan. Those looking for the girl are gonna be surprised by seeing Hank Parker instead. Its nice to have things in common with your spouse, girlfriend, partner. However it’s also nice to have some differences. Fishing is one of those things for my wife and I. I can count the amount of times in our 19 year marriage we have gone fishing together on one hand minus a finger or two. Fishing is my, clear my head, time. Don’t know if I could do that if she went with me every time. 1 Quote
