Don't let the bait monkey get ya, 2020 edition

With Black Friday fast approaching, who else has been tagged by the bait monkey this year?

 

This year I actually have a fairly ambitious Black Friday built up myself, after keeping it down last year. I had both kids build up a wishlist with the idea of filling up the utility trays they carry in their kayaks so they each have a full collection of T-Rigs and jigs and a handful of other lures and they can build from there and that will be their X-Mas presents this year along with the fish finders.

 

Then I plan to get some basic tools and scales to just keep in our blackpaks/milk crates so everybody has their own and I can keep the one I have in my tackle bag in my tackle bag - and stop forgetting to take the scale. As for lures for myself, I don't actually need a whole lot, just white spinnerbaits and a handful of jigs - unfortunately my #1 jig of choice is sold out so I may wait for those to come back in stock.

I've already got my TW wishlist filled in - transferring all that to my cart and adding the BF discount...$200. Course that includes almost $50 in replacement treble hooks for a load of crank/jerkbaits I just got (Thanks OE)

The Bait Monkey is going to destroy me. It all started last night when @A-Jay put some of his cranks for sale at the Flea Market. I adopted a lot of deep diving crankbaits. Then last week the wife got me a decent gift card to TW so I’ve been making my wish list up for Black Friday.

Oh, add to above - new sonar...if one of my relatives doesn't gift me with one...and new rods - got Sierras on my wishlist, I'd get Furys if I'm not gifted those.

The two Steez rods I added this year are my scars from where the bait monkey bit me hard this year.

I'm hoping to add one high end setup to my arsenal this year too and the 7'1" H/F Steez is in the running. You don't happen to have that one by chance?

A couple crankbaits, frogs, flippin' hooks, skirt material, buzzbait. Not a whole lot for me, mainly a re-stock for next season.

Don't tempt me - that's like my second most productive jerkbait and I have like three or four of them and it's generally not a bait I lose and need to replace all that often.

Oh bummer - was wondering if it's really as good with lighter lures as the rating suggests. I had the Tatula H/F 7'1" and it throw a 1/2 jig an absolute mile and I think it still threw a 3/8oz jig further than my MH rods do.

Honestly not sure what I'd want from them anymore after amassing a huge hardbait collection earlier this year as well as some nicer reels and rods.

 

Wish Megabass still made their Z-Crank X crankbaits though. Could use a few more of those. They're basically rat-l-traps with the buoyancy and cover deflection of a balsa squarebill, and the coffin bill shape makes them more weedless than your average squarebill.

 

Been picking off a few here and there on ebay but the color selection just isn't great.

I'm hoping to just fill in the gaps this BF and not get too carried away. Next year I'm hoping to get into a witness protection program and hide from the bait monkey until BF 2021.

I need a new reel for a Cashion chatterbait rod my buddy gave me a deal on!  And plan on stocking my line also, maybe some new baits find there way in there!  Lol

I'm looking at retiring my curado and revo at the end of the year, so I'm going to need a couple of new baitcasters.  I will also be replacing a couple of spinning rods that I got second hand which are at least 20 years old.  The last thing is one more light tackle rig maybe ml or light action.

So back at the beginning the pandemic I got another Dobyns Sierra spin and Champion XP casting rod and my wife made me sign a stupid note that I can’t ask for more tackle during the year. I did work around it for odds and ends (22 war eagle spinnerbaits) that were put away for Christmas. Never signing anything again lol. 
 

For Christmas already have a large restock on liquid mayhem scent, quantum icon, another rod holder, couple of fishing books, St Croix musky rod, and have a decent amount to hunt for stuff on Black Friday. Oh and in laws are getting me some non lead Ned heads, Siebert order, and a couple more fishing books and musky leader. I did OK. 
 

saying that some of you could way out spend me with a high end combo or two;)

Maybe you can buy her tons of tackle for Christmas knowing that she doesn't fish, hoping that it comes back your way? You know, get her a Daiwa Steez combo, or maybe a G Loomis Conquest and a Steez combo or something like that...

20% off almost everything besides Megabass and I think one other brand. Last year they had an additional 10% off of some brands like Strike King, War Eagle and some others and unlike many places they don't mark it up in advance, so it's legit.

I can attest to this - last year got a Dobyns Fury for $95 during the BF sale. I've already got about $200 of items in my wishlist - that's after the 20% markdown BTW.

2020 has been a very good year for the tackle industry, I know I did my part to support! Black Friday I hope to add another Curado and a rod. Will make 3 Shimano reels this year. The forecast for 2021 looks to be heavily laden with tackle as well. Keep up the fight men!

My list for Black Friday is just to refill some stuff for 2021.  I will get hooks, tungsten weights, senkos, jigs, line, some crankbaits, and one Megabass Vision Jerkbait. 

 

I am saving up for a G. Loomis Conquest so my list is limited.  The plan is to pick it up next Spring.  Not sure what reel I will put on it but can't wait for next year.

Though I did pick up a couple things mid-year in 2020 - maybe again in 2021...dunno
